Guidelines for Lookup Volunteers
Volunteers may do unlimited lookups if :
1. The lookup volunteer is the actual author and copyright holder of the publication.
2. The lookup volunteer is using primary source documents, i.e. local courthouse resources
or their own Xeroxed copies of PUBLIC domain documents.
3. Volunteers may be able to make certain limited scope lookups in copyrighted
publications under the FAIR USE provisions of existing law.
When requesting lookups, please put the name of the book from which you are requesting a lookup in the first line of the message as many of these wonderful people have volunteered to be a resource for several counties. Limit your requests and don't forget to thank your volunteer for their time and effort. Lookup requests should be limited to one name, or perhaps two if it is a married couple. Information given will be minimal, for example if it is a cemetery lookup, the information will be the name of the cemetery and the dates on the headstone. Please do not ask for "everybody with X surname" or an entire family group, or for hardcopies to be mailed. Should the book prove useful, we can provide the author's address and ordering information if the book is not out of print. Volunteers will endeavor to get a written statement from each copyright holder which stipulates which books may be used for lookups.
