Stephen L. Goodner Jr., age 78, of Mount Ida, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 in Hot Springs, AR. Steve was born on April 3, 1940 in Silver, AR, to Stephen Lester (Les) Goodner and Willie Katherine (Kate) Fisher Goodner. Steve returned home to his beloved Mount Ida, AR after traveling around the world – retiring from the United States Navy. He was a collector of old vehicles (mostly Fords)! He was a smart… man. Steve was a great lover… of nature and could identify every plant and tree in the Arkansas woods and would tell you tales that were filled mostly with facts. He was full of knowledge! His empty chair at Mount Ida Café will be hard to fill.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents: Les and Kate Goodner, sister: Martha Joyce and her husband, Bill McKay, brothers: William E. (Bill Ed) McKenney and John, Timothy and Jerry Goodner. Survivors include: Two daughters: Joanie and her husband, Ray Hall of Parker, Colorado, Kathy Smith of Eugene, Oregon, one sister: Tyna Millacci of Hawaii and one brother: Tom Goodner and his wife Linda of Stamps, Arkansas. He is also survived by four grandchildren: ... J, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation is 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Thornton Funeral Home. Graveside service is 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 13, 2019 with Bro. Russell Hull officiating. Burial at the Goodner-Alley Cemetery on Logan Gap Road in Mount Ida, Arkansas. Pallbearers: Nelson Emery, Jerry Sandlin, Bill Redding, Adam Goodner, Roger Garner, Jon Standridge, Ray McGrew, and J.L.
