MATILDA (BEASLEY) YOCHAM, GEORGE RICHARD YOCHAM & JAMES MONROE YOCHAM Submitted by: Joel Thomas Orcutt January 2005 (joelorcutt@sbcglobal.net) James Monroe Yocham was born and raised on the White River, Marion County, Arkansas, the fourth child of Jacob & Emmiline (Denison) Yocham. He married Mary Ann Kerley, the daughter of Dr. Daniel W. & Martha Kerley ca 1878, or just before the U.S. Census of 1880 (where he and Mary Ann were residing on a farm in Little North Fork Township). Several children were born of this marriage, including a daughter named Ida, and possibly a son named James M., but George Richard was the only child to survive to adulthood. Mary Ann (Kerley) Yocham died ca. 1883, and February 12, 1888 James married Matilda Beasley. In 1900 James moved with wife Matilda and son George to Clarksville, Indian Territory, near where present day Coweta, Wagoner County, Oklahoma is located. James farmed in his earlier years, and later preached as a circuit preacher for many years in the Rose, Oklahoma area, where he and Matilda owned and operated a store, cafe, and early day version of a motel, or "motor court". Both James and Matilda are buried in the Rose cemetery. This picture was made ca 1898 at Oakland, Marion County, Arkansas ![]() Return to Marion Co Home Page
