The First Baptist Church of Sparkman was organized at the start of 1914; with the assistance of Reverend George W. McNew. There were nineteen charter members. Construction of the new church was started immediately after the organization and was completed by the fall of 1914. The community Sunday School; as well as other church denominations occupied and used the new building. Continued all denomination worship was done until other Churches were build in the area. Reverend George Richardson was the first paster, and Mr. H. O. Thweatt was the first Sunday School Superintendent.

The Church was completely destroyed by fire on March 2, 1947. The new building was completed in April, 1948 and services were held at the High School during the construction.

A brick parsonage was built in 1961, just north of the church. The church has been rebuilt, enlarged, remodeled and added to since its one room creation.
