Lona Simolke
Minden, LA Funeral services for Lona Beatrice Simolke will be held Monday, August 18, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Minden, Louisiana where she was the oldest living member. Father Sebastian Kallarackal presiding. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Minden, Louisiana under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 5 until 7 p.m. with a vigil at 7 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden.
Lona was born September 17, 1912 in Fordyce, Arkansas and went to the Lord on Friday, August 15, 2014. She died peacefully in her own home. Living such a blessed life of almost 102 years, she was sitting in her chair, and was seen waving to someone out the window at the time of her passing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis (Bill) T. Simolke, son, Douglas G. Simolke, and grandson, Steven Greene. Also her father Guy Spears and mother Ethel Crane Spears. The last of seven brothers and sisters: Alvia Fielder, Molly McClain, Effie Underwood, Fannie Frye, Ruthie Mae Smith, G.D. Spears, and Judy Spears.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Hinze and husband Julius, one daughter-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Simolke of Nebo, North Carolina, grandchildren: Roxanne Carr of Houston, Texas; Dr. and Mrs. Gregory Simolke of Marion, North Carolina; Kevin Hinze of Anahuac, Texas, Tonya Hinze Winslow and husband Toby, also of Anahuac, six great-grandchildren, and four great great- grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her nephews: Jerry Fielder, Tommy Frye, Dwayne Frye, Freddie Frye, George Simolke, and Gary Simolke.
Honorary pallbearers are: Lonnie Simpson and Larry Elkins.
