He was the son of Thomas B. St. John and Martha Moss Hicks.

He married Mary Martha "Molly" Saline Beasley on 10 Apr 1884 in Bradley County, Arkansas.

She was born 4 Oct 1866 in Louisiana and died 22 May 1953; buried at Saline Cemetery, Sumpter, Bradley County, Arkansas.

She was the daughter of J. T. Beasley (b. 12 Aug 1835) and Mary B (Polly Anna) Forrest (b. Abt 1844).
