Unknown Persons in Picture found in Attic
"I have an old picture that I found in my attic here in Warren. I have no earthly idea who the people are but probably somebody here in Warren does know.
Please post this on the unknown pictures part of the Bradley County website so we can identify these nameless souls." ~~Floyd Brown

Charles Woodbin Hankins Family
"This is a family picture of the C. W. (Charles Woodbin) Hankins family. Included are his wife, Kate Hurley Hankins, his daughter, Neppie Martin, his sons, Ernest and Edwin, his daughters-in-law Myrtie Orton Hankins, Florence Belin Hankins, Mary Martin Hankins and his son-in-law Bryan Martin. Also included are his grandchildren:Betty Hankins Henry, Harriett Hankins McClendon, Martin Hankins, Virginia Hankins Fort, Bob Hankins, Wilson Hankins, Hugh Hankins, Ernest Hankins, Jr., Kenneth Martin, Sue Martin Crow, Martha Martin, Kathryn Hankins Englehart and Edwin Hankins, Jr. Noticeably absent are his son, Felton Hankins and Felton's wife, Athleen Martin Hankins who were my grandparents and were reportedly ill when this photo was taken. The picture was taken in front of the Edwin Hankins home on East Church Street, right on the corner of the street that goes in front of the Bradley County Memorial Hospital. Felton Hankins later became the sole owner of C. W. Hankins & Son located on East Cedar Street across from the Courthouse. Martin Hankins, his son, was for many years the Manager of the store, and my father, Thornton McClendon was the Controller. My mother is Harriett Hankins McClendon, the small girl in the front row with the scarf." Charles A. McClendon
"This is the family of "Grandma" Kate Hurley Hankins with several of her children, their spouses and their children. I can identify most of them but if you were to contact Felton "Fellow" Martin Hankins, he will be able to identify all of them. He is one of those pictured. Fellow and I grew up together and another one of those pictured is Edwin Hankins, Jr., my brother-in-law, who married my sister, Mary Baldwin Meek. The picture was made in the front yard of the residence for many years of Edwin Hankins, Sr. and Florence Belin Hankins which is located on Church Street. The house still stands but has been remodeled so it is not white any more. Have truly enjoyed your Bradley County site and my two sons have furnished a number of informational items. I grew up in Warren and like everyone else who grew up there, Warren is still home, though I haven't lived there since 1958. As you can guess, I am one of the "ancients"!"
"I am very familiar with the photo as it is of my family and I am in it. This photo was taken in about 1927 at the home of Edwin Hankins. Mack and Erma Leslie now own this home on Church Street in Warren. The older couple is Charles Woodbin Hankins and Kate Hurley Hankins the parents and grandparents of the others in the photo. The Floyd Browns came by my house last night and at his request I indentified each of these people. I am now 86 years old and my two older sisters and one other cousin are all that survive. C. W. and Kate Hankins moved to Warren in 1879 with ninety dollars capitol with which he established a tin shop to fabricate all sorts of goods out of sheet metal. The produced six children - four boys and two girls. As time went by many additional products were added to his firm such as horse-drawn farm equipment, building material, hardware, furniture and appliances. After 105 years in business, I liquidated it in 1984. Cordially," Felton Martin Hankins
