Here’s a very rare look at America’s favorite pastime as it was enjoyed in 19th century White County. This is identified as the "Walker Baseball Team." However, all of the uniforms are different; the only clothing item in common is their caps which have –AR TOBACCO printed on them. The man seated at left in front, who is identified as "Dickie," is wearing an umpire’s uniform. The man standing at left, identified as "Walter," is probably Walter Creson (1872-1897). The "Authure" standing beside him is Arthure Wilburn Shoffner (1874-1898). The man seated at right with a catcher’s mask is identified as "Mr. Cook." The man third from left on the back row is identified only as "Ruff." It is not known who wrote the identities on the photograph.
