Mt. Pisgah may be a small community but it had a well-dressed and handsome baseball team in the early 1900s. When Diann Poe of Letona, a member of the board of directors of the White County Historical Society, donated a copy of this photo to the WCHS she knew the identity of only the man seated at right – her grandfather John Richard Bennett. A couple of years later, another Historical Society member, Michael Barton of Houston, Texas, saw the photo on this website and identified two more. The catcher, who is seated on the left, is Michael’s great-grandfather James Edward Barton. The player standing on the right is James Edward’s brother Haywood Reno Barton. “I'm guessing that all of the players had a copy of the picture,” Michael said. “I inherited my copy with my great-grandparents’ things. Hopefully the others will be identified.” Diann had been told the photo was made "about 1918,” but Barton figures it might be as early as 1900, based on the known birth dates of these three players: James Edward Barton, born 24 September 1875; Haywood Reno Barton, born 19 October 1877; John Richard Bennett, born 12 January 1880 If you can help with information on this photograph, contact the White County Historical Society, P.O.
