Union Grove was surveyed by Leroy Blair (right) of the White County Historical Society. Retired from the U.S. Army and told by his physician to walk each day, Blair chose to visit the cemeteries of White County and record what he saw as he took his daily strolls. He found several cemeteries that were not registered and took many photographs, including the headstone (left) of Alfred Bell, a veteran of the Indian War, that he found at Union Grove. Blair’s effort in locating and updating cemeteries is one of the most significant contributions in the long history of the White County Historical Society, which honored him in 2002 as "Volunteer of the Year." The following year, he and his wife Ellen were recognized by the Arkansas Archeological Society.

Union Grove Black Cemetery

Bald Knob, Arkansas

This cemetery, although known, had never been listed before it was visited November 30, 2000, by Leroy Blair of the White County Historical Society. Blair described the location as "on the east side of Bald Knob at the end of Cody Street."" He noted the area was "clean and well cared for." In addition to the following list, he found more than 100 unmarked graves, eight marked with cement blocks and five with funeral home markers that were illegible. He also found one grave marked with an old tire with flowers in it.
