Hart Cemetery

Rose Bud, Arkansas

The information on the following list was collected by Leroy “Lee” Blair A Member of the Board of Directors White County Arkansas Historical Society.P.O. Box 637. Searcy AR. 72145

To reach this old cemetery from Rose Bud, go about two miles east on Highway 36 to Newhart Road and turn right (south). In about a mile, the road will split. Take the fork to the left, The cemetery is on the right side of the road behind the New Hart Free Will Baptist Church.  This has also been known as Hart’s Chapel. This cemetery was first listed March 4, 1962, by Cloie and Leister Presley of the White County Historical Society, who described it as “well-kept” and reported seeing 40 unmarked graves. The listing was updated by Leroy Blair of the White County Historical Society after he and his wife Ellen visited the cemetery January 9, 2001. He found 60 graves that were not on the Presley list. The cemetery is “still clean and well cared for.” Leroy Blair visited this site again on February 16, 2007, and created a new list by comparing all old lists with what he saw on tombstones while walking through the cemetery. He created a map of the grounds and added Section and Row information to the list, to make it easier to locate specific grave sites. He was unable to find some of the graves on the old lists, and noted these. He said the graves “may have been covered with leaves or I simply did not see them.” He also added a list of military veterans who are buried here.
