Medal of Honor winner Joshua Hartzog died in White County but was born in Baulding County, Ohio. He served as a Private,
Company E, 1st U.S. Artillery. He earned the Medal of Honor at Wounded Knee Creek, South Dakota, on December 29, 1890. His
citation reads: “ Went to the rescue of the commanding officer who had fallen severely wounded, picked him up, and carried him
