COUNTY FARMER IS FOUND DEAD
Melvin Fields Found by Granddaughter
Melvin Fields, 69 year old county farmer,
was found dead in a field near
his home east of Springdale yesterday morning. Coroner
Edmond Watson was
called to the scene and it was declared Fields died from
natural causes and
no inquest was necessary.
Fields' granddaughter found the body about
9:30 yesterday morning when
she went to the field where he was plowing to take him
water. It appeared he
had become tangled in the lines of the team and had been
dragged several feet.
He was reported to have suffered internal
injuries several weeks ago when
a team ran away with him, and it was stated his family
had heard him
complain of pain before leaving the house the morning
of his death.
Mr. Fields was born Sept. 21, 1879, near
War Eagle, the son of Joe Fields
His mother was also a native of Tennessee. He was
a member of the Methodist church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at
2 p.m. at the chapel of the
Callison-Sisco Funeral home. Burial will be in Wilson
cemetery under
direction of Callison-Sisco.
Survivors include his wife, Birdie; three
daughters, Mrs. Eula Mabry, Gridley, Calif.,
Mrs. C. T. Smith, Forth Smith, and Mrs. Harry O'Neal,
Springdale; three sons, Albert, Springdale,
Orval, San Pablo, calif., and Eugene, Rogers; one brother,
Carson Fields, Rogers; one sister,
Mrs. Fannie Joyce, Bartlett, Texas; 13 grandchildren,
and three
great-grandchildren.
