Where we Are
Van Buren County is located in the north central part of Arkansas, surrounded snugly by six
neighbors. To the northeast is Stone County with Cleburne County to the east and Faulkner County in
the south. Because of the irregular shape, Conway County also claims a border in the south, with Pope
County to the west and Searcy County to the north. Van Buren County was named after then Vice
President Martin Van Buren, of course, and the county seat is Clinton, named for New York's Governor
DeWitt Clinton who saw to the building of the Erie Canal.
