L.G. Montgomery for Representative
Submitted by Donnie PickardVan Buren County Democrat, March 21, 1924
L. G. Montgomery
Yielding to the solicitation of personal and political friends who have been rather insistent that he again offer as a candidate for representative from this county Rev. L. G. Montgomery has authorized the Democrat to place his announcement before the qualified voters in the August primary. Mr. Montgomery is now concluding his second term.
In directing us to make this announcement he stated that it was not his intention to ask for a third term, nor would he now do so but for the insistence of his friends who have very kindly stated that in view of his well known position upon questions now uppermost in the minds of all people and the experience had he could be of still greater service during the coming session.
The Democrat has no hesitancy in saying that Mr. Montgomery has made us a most acceptable official. We believe he has been actuated by right motives and has earnestly strived to faithfully represent his constituency and to guard their interest to the best of his ability.
To our mind one of the greatest constructive acts of years was the passage of the Harrelston road bill a measure that means the saving of thousands of dollars to the taxpayers of this county, if not the actual securement of many of their homes. In supporting this measure, which shifts the burden of taxation from the land owner to the wealth of the state, he did his constituency the greatest service possible for him to render. Should he receive the Democratic nomination and be subsequently elected we believe he will be found as loyal in all other matters as his record show him to have been heretofore.
