Mrs. A.M. Catheren Hall
Scotland, Ark., Apr. 25th 1915

In your paper dated April 23d, regarding history of pioneer citizens, will say the subject of this sketch, Mrs. A.M. Cathren Hall, nee Moore, was born at Arlington, Va., Dec. 26th, 1835, and near where Floyd and Sidney Allen made such a display of their guns in court with such feeling effect a few years ago. I was the oldest child of a family of eight children born to Isaac and Mary Moore. My mother's maiden name was Warren.

I left Virginia with my parents at the age of nine, moving to Fayette, Ga., where we stayed one year, then moving to Memphis, Tenn., remaining two years. We moved overland to Pulaski County, Ark. In 1847, remaining one year when we then moved to the western part of Van Buren County, settling near what was then called Sulphur Springs, now called Liberty springs, on the place now owned by John Bost. Here my mother died in February 1848.

I was married to Robert Hall January 7th, 1855, who at that time lived in what is now called the Gulf and on what is now known as the Sam Kilpatrick place. We moved to the old Hall homestead in December 1863, where I still make my home with my youngest son, A.L. Hall. l Have lived here continuously; have never been away from the county more than one week at any one time and then to visit a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Bernard, who lived near Old Galla Rock South of Atkins.

My father died in 1858; all my brothers and sisters have since died. I am now in my 80th year; have lived in this county 67 years, and am still able to visit my children, eight in number, and all of whom live near me. I have 50 grand children and 35 great grandchildren living and with the exception of three grandsons, all live within three miles of the old home. So far as I know there are but two person, Jacob Eades of Woolverton, and Riley Williams of Scotland, now living here who were here when I came to this county.

Well, Mr. Oldham, I read your paper each week and hope and pray that you will be permitted to live many years and continue to issue the nice clean sheet that you are now making of the Democrat, for you certainly deserve lots of praise and more bouquets than you will get while living for your efforts to do good.

Sincerely,
A.M. Cathrene Hall

NOTE: Jacob Eades is my gg-grandfather Catheren/Cathren/Cathrene spelling exactly as paper printed it.
