TURNEY, WILLIAM ALLEN of Higden, Ark. was born in Van Buren Co., Ark. the son of Henry Turney of Tenn., who was the son of Peter and Hanna Turney. Subject was a Democrat and a Mason. He served with Co. A, enlisted at Quitman, Ark. in Cleburne Co. by Colonel T. D. Merick, July 1861, in Infantry first and then Cavalry, was in battles of Shiloh, Port Hudson, Fort Scott, Kansas and was captured at Fort Scott. Married Elizabeth Potter, dau. of William Potter of Kinderhook, Ark., on Jan. 13, 1867 in Cleburne Co. (then Van Buren Co.) Ark.
