TURNEY, PETER GIDION of Shiloh, Ark. was born Feb. 11, 1842 at Van Buren Co. Ark. the son of Henry Turney of Smith, Tenn. and Minerva Gilley. He was educated in Cleburne Co., Ark. by teachers Bob Hill, Melt Parker and Wesley Parker. He was a Democrat, Baptist, Mason and Oddfellow. Served with Co. A, 10th Regt. Gen. Bowen Brigadier. Enlisted at Quitman by Capt. Witt, July 10, 1861 served until 1865. Was in battles of Shiloh, Tenn., Baton Rouge, La. Poucle Satula?, La., Port Hudson, Roseville, Ark., Prairie, Ark. Marks Mill, Salem River. Houston, Mo., Kansas City, MO. about 40 paroled, Poison Springs, "Indians and Negros fought." Married Dicy Potter, dau. of William and Nacy Potter, Dec. 1865, Kinderhook, Ark. (Under "Other Particulars of Wife's Ancestry" is the name "Lizzy Brlow" with no indication as to who she was.)
