James F. FULKERSON, born about 1830-1833 in TN, and married Julia Ann PATE (b. ca. 1837). He settled in Arkansas by 1860. He served as a Private in Company A of the 8th Arkansas Cavalry - known as Morgan's Regiment - where he was listed as: FULKERSON, JAMES Pvt Enl 10 May 1863 at Clinton, AR. Paroled 5 Jun 1865 at Jacksonport, AR. Age 32. Born TN.
The 1870 Census records for Union Township in Conway County, Arkansas listed in house number 38: James Fulkerson, age 37 who was from Tennessee; Julia, age 33. Others listed were Sarah, age 17; Louisa, age 9; Thomas, age 7; David, 7; Tennessee, age 5; and William, age 1. All gave Arkansas as the place of birth except James who was from Tennessee. He died at Wichita Falls, TX in 1897.
POSSIBLE LEADS:
According to the "Biographical & Historical Memoirs of Western Arkansas," there was a Huldah FULKERSON, daughter of Michael and Nancy FULKERSON, who married an Isaac STEELE. Her father Michael died in Tennessee, and her mother Nancy moved to Arkansas.
There was a Michael Dillingham FULKERSON, son of James FULKERSON Jr. and Patience POTEET, and grandson of Captain James FULKERSON, for whom we currently know nothing beyond his birthdate.
Old Arkansas land records indicate a husbandless Nancy living next door to James.
