Nina said that when they were still small children that her father and mother moved to Arkansas. Her and the girls had to walk beside the wagon the whole way. It was a dirty dusty and dangerous trip. Crossing the rivers she said was the scariest. To have all of the half-brothers and half-sisters that the children had they respected and loved each other like they were all full blood brothers and sisters. Nina said that when the girls got old enough that they would have Sunday box dinners. The guys would bid on the box lunches and try to get the box of the girls that they wanted to be with . Of course the girls would drop hints to the guys that they wanted to get their box a glue which box was theirs. Like their box had a certain ribbon or something that they would know was their box. The money would be raised for different causes. The Church Social would have local people that could play music and sing perform under the brush arbor for the young people and young couples. Back then the Church doubled as the School house so it was the main place for everyone to meet.
When the girls were grown they would have Sunday Dinners for the family. It would be at the parents house. When the parents got to old and moved in with some of the family then that person was host to the family dinners. All of the good ole' home cooking: Fried Chicken, Corn on the Cob, Potatoes, Green Beans, Biscuits, Pies and Cakes. To drink they would have cow's milk, coffee, tea or a cool glass of old fashioned Lemon Aid. The children running and playing and the grown ups talking of the weather, family.
