FENNELL
Would like to exchange information with others researching the Fennell family in Arkansas. Three Fennell brothers - Morris D., Wade H. and Hawkins - were born in South Carolina and settled in Union County, Ark., in the late 1850s. Morris D. and Wade H. both enlisted in Co. F, 19 (Dockery's) Arkansas Infantry (Confederate) during the Civil War. Morris was captured at Vicksburg and paroled. Morris was in Brazos County, Texas, in the 1870 census, but he had returned to Union County by 1882. He was drawing a Confederate pension from the state of Arkansas when he died in Union County in 1901. When his farm was sold in 1914, heirs were listed on the deed as J.A. Fennell, S. Frank Fennell, W.W. Fennell, Willie Fennell, J.L. Fennell (probably widow Julia L. Fennell, Morris' second or third wife), Lizzie Fennell (wife of J.A. Fennell) and Beula Fennell (wife of S. Frank Fennell). Janey E. Joyce in San Antonio, Texas

CALAWAY/HOGG/HOPKINS/MANUEL/RIMLINGER/VINSON/WILSON/
I am interested in several people in Union County. I have seen limited census records for 1830-1920 for mostly Calaways (all spellings) but do not have maiden names of wives, etc.
I would like Birth, Death, Marriage, Land Records if you can. Online info would be great since I could search through them myself. Hardcopies would work too. Thank you in advance! Janet Rimlinger, 716 Raynham Rd, Collegeville, PA 19426

HOLCOMB
Query: I wrote you the other day, but am not sure the letter was sent. I am a bit of a novice on the internet, so no telling where I forwarded your letter!
I am seeking information about my gg grandfather/mother William and Elizabeth Ann Driskill Holcomb. They were from Union Co., Lafayette Township. Wm. is on the l840 census and secured land patents in l842, 45. Elizabeth is listed as widow in l850. Is there a catagorized list of cemeteries and inhabitants for Union County and Clark Counties?
I am not, of course, asking you to research for me, merely point me in the correct direction. Cemeteries and obituaries seem logical places. Thank you. Pam Rogers 8l08 Palo Duro NE Albq., NM 87110 home 505-293-1127

DRISKILL/THOMPSON
It appears that you're the authority on Union County. I wish I could be of some help...but I'm still looking. Do you know what might be available in any libraries regarding Union County, especially any books or articles that might have been written about Union County history?
My ggg-grandfather, Obediah Driskill, was supposed to have owned a sawmill (somewhere) in Union County, and died in 1843. I was told that he and his first wife, Nancy Young, were buried in a cemetery that was on a riverbank, that washed away around 1880. Does any of this sound familiar? Apparently, there were some older folks around the area who knew of the sawmill, and a place called Scarborough Landing, but this was some time ago, and they are probably all gone, now.
I hope to have a chance to come to Union County before the end of the year, and would like to spend a day or two in any library that might offer some historical reading material, and then hope to look around the area. Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated! Ed Driskill

My grgrgrgrandfather Drewry Arrington may have lived in Union County in 1830. BRYAN/PRICE/SMITH/WATKINS
I've recently returned (no $$ or time left) from an AR research trip with more questions. I know that Union, Ouachita, Columbia, Lafayette, Hempstead are intertwined. I have a Reuben B. BRYAN m. Elizabeth Pernice WATKINS. After searching in those areas of AR for several days, I found a Reuben B. BRYAN m. to an Elizabeth PRICE, 1879 in a Ouachita Co. marriage index with all the same info as my Elizabeth WATKINS I know that Reuben came into the area around or before 1860. Elizabeth WATKINS parents came to that area in early 1800's and Elizabeth WATKINS was b. abt 1840. I'm trying to find proof that this is my Reuben BRYAN. From several sources I show he was marrd to the WATKINS and from verbal family history, he was married to WATKINS and was a Baptist preacher. The Reuben I found info on in those areas was a Baptist preacher and marrying people still in 1893. The Stephens Cemetary in Ouachita Co., has the headstones for a R.B. BRYAN and E.P. BRYAN. My records and other sources show Elizabeth b. 1840 d. 1892., This headstone says b. 1840 d. 1892. In 1893 a census lists Reuben B. married again to a Martha SMITH and my grandmother, Elora BRYAN and her sister Allen BRYAN are listed with them. Marriage records index indicate Reuben B. married a Mrs. Martha Smith in 1893. To further complicate things a BRYAN family in the area shows in their records Reuben B. married to Emily Elizabeth POLK!!! I looked at census records and it shows a Robert B. BRYAN m. to this POLK. I did find that several documents would only show RB BRYAN so I think this local BRYAN family did not have the correct info. Even their handwritten info from a relative had ?'s by the Reuben BRYAN name.
Reuben owned land, index shows poll and tax records, and some of it was probably in Union County as well as Ouachita and Columbia. I know he married people in both Ouachita & Columbia counties.
Since I ran out of time, I could go no further to unravel the mystery. I really just want documentation that Reuben B. BRYAN did marry Elizabeth Pernice WATKINS. My grandmother, Elora BRYAN was b. in Stephens, AR, Ouachita Co. on 3/1/1879, documented on her headstone and funeral home records and the 1900 census shows her age with birthdate as 3/1879. The marriage index showing Reuben married to a Elizabeth Price gives a marriage date of Oct 24, 1877. This would match with the birthdate of my grandmother.
My Elizabeth WATKINS was b. 1840. In 1877 she would have been 37 which means that she might have been previously married to a PRICE?? Of course all our records show that she only married once to Reuben B. BRYAN(t), name is spellled both ways.
Would appreciate help/info/referral as I'm stumped! TIA, Ina. Reply to: swallace@hihello.com

BRYAN/HARRINGTON
Would also appreciate any help to find a marriage record of my grandmother Elora BRYAN to Ark(Archimedes) M.(Mahan) HARRINGTON, probably between 1900 and 1905 in either Union, Columbia or Ouachita Co. My uncle was the first born, in Stephens, Ouachita County, in 1905 and my mother b. same place in 1914. Ark HARRINGTON is from a prominent HARRINGTON line in Columbia county descended from Andrew Jackson HARRINGTON, Sr. and JR. SR being one of the first 100 settlers in this Southern area. Again, TIA. WALKER
I am doing research on the Walker family who came to the community of Buena Vista in Ouachita County in approximately 1840. However, I understand that Ouachita County was at that time part of Union County. Would Union County have the records for this time period, or would these records be in Ouachita County? When was Ouachita County formed out of Union County? I would appreciate any information you could offer. Thank you. Barbara Ray
