GEORGIA N. HANSON
Georgia Nell Hicks Hanson 79 of Plano, Texas and formerly of El Dorado died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 at the Medical Center of Plano.
Born May 27, 1928, in New Hope, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Marion Shepherd and Annie Lavinia Chisholm Hicks.
She was an executive of south Central Bell Telephone Company, employed from 1952 until her retirement in 1986 as the Traffic Manager for the state of Alabama. She was a former member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church in El Dorado.

CURTIS L. ALLEN
Curtis Lee Allen, 60, of Smackover, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at his home.
The son of Richard Lee Allen and L.C. Johnson, he was born Nov. 5, 1947, in Camden. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Smackover.
He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Brady Meekins; his grandmother, Adline Johnson; and his grandfather, Boise Johnson.
Survivors include his mother, L.C. Meekins of Smackover; three stepsons, Veotis Davis, Stanley Davis and Machael Holmes; six brothers, Arthur Lee Allen of Smackover, Bob Allen of Camden, Johnnie Fort of Conyers, Ga., Charles Nettles Jr. of California, and the Rev. Samuel Nettles and Melvin Allen-Burns of Detroit; and two sisters, Patricia Allen and Bessie Mae Goodwin of Detroit.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, 404 MLK, in Smackover, with the Rev. Samuel Nettles officiating. Burial will be in Hicks Cemetery under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home.
Public viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today and from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

CHARLLA A. BURROW
Charlla A. Young Burrow, 40, of Conway, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008.
Born in El Dorado on June 22, 1967, she was a daughter to Charles and Brenda (Burge) Young of El Dorado.
She was a beloved mother, daughter and sister. Charlla loved everyone and was a person that stood out among the crowd. She loved her children, parents, family and people, from the very core of her heart. She befriended many in all walks of life. Her main purpose in life was to share a unique kind of love and pass it on so that others would learn from it and pass it on to others. Charlla was a light in all our hearts that will never burn out; she was truly a Daddy's girl, where he was, she was. Charlla loved her children with a God kind of love and she always saw the best in them. There was nothing they could not talk to her about or she could not talk to them about. Makenzi and Tanner were the air she breathed. All will truly miss her.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Evelyn and L.E. Burge; paternal grandfather, Ervin Young; a sister, K.K. Young; and an uncle, Jerry Lee Young
Survivors include her children, Tanner and Makenzi Burrow of Greenbrier; her parents; her sisters, Jodie Sutherlin (David), Nedra Roe (Scott); a brother, Chuck Young (Devin); paternal grandmother, Virginia Young of El Dorado; maternal grandmother, Sue Burge; nephews, Aaron, Austin and Ryan Young, and Josh Sutherlin and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home, in Greenbrier. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Wooster.

OLIVER FOYIL SR.
Oliver "Kendon" Foyil Sr., 86, of El Dorado, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Oak Ridge Nursing Home following a long illness.
Born on Dec. 27, 1921, in Junction City, he was the son of Walter A. and Nettie Powell Foyil. He had worked in the oilfield and most recently as a house painter. A World War II veteran, he was in the Normandy invasion and Central France campaigns with the 347th Engineers. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled Veterans of America. He was a member of Mount Union Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lena Hux; a daughter, Rhonda Faye Foyil; a grandson, Tracy Kent Foyil; and his wife, Madeline Amis Foyil.
Survivors include a son, O.K. Pete Foyil Jr. of Crane, Texas; a daughter, Elaine Whatley of Culleoka, Tenn.; five grandsons and 16 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Smyrna Cemetery with the Rev. Don Travis officiating. Bailey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorials maybe made to Life Touch Hospice, 2301 Champagnolle Road, El Dorado, AR 71730.

CHARLES H. LINDSEY
Charles Henry Lindsey, of Kansas City, Mo., and formerly of El Dorado, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, in Kansas City.
Arrangements will be announced by Andrews Funeral Home.

EARNEST MINER
Earnest Miner, 65, of Harrell, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008.
The son of Irene Burks and James Miner, he was born in Harrell.
Survivors include one son, James Miner of Harrell; two daughters, Lashundra Hegler of Hampton and Roquell Hegler of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Vernice Miner of Milwaukee, and James Arthur Miner of El Dorado; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Harrell with the Rev. Maurice Gaskin officiating. Burial will be in Ricks Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Williams Funeral Home of Fordyce.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family will be at 823 Cedar St. in Hampton.

ED RICHARDSON
Ed Richardson, 63, of Columbia, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008.
He was born May 10, 1944, in Piedmont, Mo., the son of Newman and Isabelle Richardson. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated from Pratt Institute of Art in 1970. For the next 25 years, he traveled the world making movies.
He served as art director or production designer for over two dozen films including Badlands (1971), High Anxiety (1977), American Gigolo (1979), Cat People (1982), Scarface (1983), Thief of Hearts (1984), Blaze (1989), Avalon (1990), Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe (1991), Love Affair (1992), and Toys (1992), for which he received an Academy Award nomination.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include two sisters, Carol Cobb of El Dorado and Geneva Crews of Manchester, Mo.; two brothers, Dr. Rayman Richardson of Fairmont, W.Va., and David Richardson of Seoul, South Korea; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in Columbia at a future date.

TRENIE SMITH
Trenie Smith, 87, of Strong, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Timberlane Health and Rehabilitation in El Dorado.
Arrangemets will be announced by Andrews Funeral Home.

GEORGE C. THURMON
George C. Thurmon, 89, of Spearsville, La., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Born June 1, 1918, in Blanchard Springs, he was the son of Grover Colvin and Alma Jane Patterson Thurmon. Mr. Thurmon was a farmer by trade and a long time member of Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Stevie Overstreet; great-grandson, Toby Wilson Jr.; sister, Ruby Pennington; brothers, Billy Thurmon, Henry Thurmon, Frank Thurmon and Ernest Thurmon; and son-in-law, Darden Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Etta Mae Thurmon of Spearsville; two sons, Leon Thurmon and his wife, Violet, of Junction City, and Earl Thurmon and his wife, Patricia, of Spearsville; two daughters, Jean Williams of Bernice, La., and Esther Mullins and her husband, Donald, of Farmerville, La.; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Methvin and the Rev. Rubin Weaver officiating and Mr. Thurmon's grandsons serving as pallbearers. Interment will be in Beech Grove of Bailey Funeral Home.
The family will be at the Thurmon residence at 2110 Tucker Store Road, Spearsville, and will receive friends for visitation from 5 until 9 p.m. today at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church.
The Thurmon family extends thanks for their loving care to Dr. Greg Smart and staff, the staff of Professional Home Health of Bernice, and the staff of Hospice of Caring Hearts of Dubach, La.

LILLIAN J. WARD
Lillian J. Ward, 75, of El Dorado, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, as a result of injuries received in an auto accident.
Born Sept. 23, 1932, in Sarah, Miss., she was the daughter of Luther H. and Lillie Mae Campbell Jones. She was a caregiver to the elderly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee Ward; two sisters, Sylvia Cupples and Ruby Ratkay; and a brother, Robert Jones.
Survivors include two sons, Oren McCullough of Iraq and Paul Thomas Whiteley of Albuquerque, N.M.; three daughters, Sylvia McCullough Miller of Hoover, Ala., Ruth Renee Baysinger of Fort Worth, Texas, and Evelyn Whiteley Farhan of Arlington, Texas; one sister, Velma Irene Jones of El Dorado; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home chapel with Paul Thomas Whiteley and the Rev. Scott Ethridge officiating.

MAX A. WILLIAMS
Max A. Williams, 67, of Junction City, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Life Touch Hospice House following a brief illness.
Born May 27, 1940, in Union County, he was the son of Kirby and Elsie Bryant Williams.
Max was a retired supervisor in several departments with Great Lakes Chemical Co. after 35 years of employment. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Junction City.
Following his retirement, he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing and being a grandfather to his special grandchildren. Max was a man who could do most anything he set his mind to do. He worked in road construction, as an automobile mechanic, and could fix anything that was torn up, or at least rig it temporarily.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dovie Williams; and his stepfather, Billy Thurmon.
Survivors include his wife of more than 48 years and high school sweetheart, Peggy Nelson Williams of Junction City; three sons, Keith Williams of El Dorado, Tony Williams (Carol) of Junction City and Max Kirby (Lil Max) Williams of Dallas, Texas. Also surviving is one brother, Dalbert "Blackie" Williams (Norene) of Junction City. Grandchildren surviving are Brandon Williams, Jana Norris, and Jenny Williams; and one great-grandchild, Linley. Survivors also include a stepsister, Peggy Thompson; brother-in-law, Bill Nelson and his wife, Rita; sister-in-law, Patsy Owens and her husband, Glen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Max's extended family includes his special friend and fishing partner, Earl Phillips, Jr.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Junction City with the Revs. Claude Patterson and Buddy Boatright officiating.
Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Junction City under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
The family will be at 502 S. Pine and will receive friends at Bailey Funeral Home in Junction City.

ETHAN S. BARTON
Ethan Scott Barton, 7-week-old son of Josh and Allison Barton of El Dorado, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2008, at his home.
Other survivors include one brother, Regan Barton; paternal grandparents, Gary and Carol Barton of El Dorado; and maternal grandparents, Mike and Barbara Haggard of Arlington, Tenn.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Young's Chapel with the Rev. Scott Etheridge officiating. Interment will be in Rehobeth Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.

CHARLES BROWN
Charles, "Chuckles," "Dad," "Pe-Pop," "Paw-Po," "Charlie" Brown, left us on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, after a short battle with lung cancer.
Born Sept. 13, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo., he was a graduate of the University of Kansas City and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary with a bachelor's of divinity and master's of theology. He served as a Presbyterian minister in Troy, Mo., chaplain at the School of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, and minister at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Mo. He officially retired in 1993 after serving 23 years at First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado. In his retirement he moved to Fayetteville, to be near his large family. He continued to occasionally serve as pulpit supply for Cane Hill Presbyterian Church, Holiday Island Presbyterian Church, and First Presbyterian Church of Springdale. He had a great love for music and often mixed song with his sermons and always appreciated a great choir. He had a love for the Irish and could be seen around town sporting a plaid "tam" hat with a red yarn ball. Known to be a "fixer-upper," he was unafraid to take on a variety of projects ranging from building churches to making yo-yos.
Building projects seemed to follow him throughout his life. They included Williams Chapel at the School of the Ozarks, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Springfield, the South Arkansas Mental Health Center in El Dorado, and a dormitory at Lyon College in Batesville that was named in his honor. Always with a youthful heart, he pushed the envelope in developing teenage hangouts within the churches he served. To his family, all of these accomplishments pale in comparison to his lop-sided swing-set, push cars, marble tower runs, and a sandbox made from the roof of a three wheel mail cart.
Those in his immediate family who continue their travel here while he travels on are his wife of 56 years, Jo Anne; his daughter, Carolyn Powell and husband, Jamie, their children, Valerie, Richard, Russell and his wife, Rachel; son, Steve and his wife, Karen, and their children, Cameron, Grayson, Matt and his wife, Ingrid, and their energetic daughter, Avery; son, Tim and his wife, Donna, and their children, Miles, Adam, Katherine and Madeline; and son, Marty and his wife, Stephanie, and their children, Andrew, Brad, Jon and Chelsea. He is also survived by his sister, Myra, and her husband, Everett Beck.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at First Presbyterian Church, 695 E. Calvin, Fayetteville. Those wishing to celebrate his life are invited to attend.

JERRY D. HUNTER
Jerry Dale Hunter, 60, of Louann, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at the Ouachita County Medical Center.
He was a Mason.
Survivors include his son, Jeff Hunter of El Dorado; daughter, Sharon Cottrell of Tulsa, Okla.; sister, Sylvia Langley of Camden; and grandchildren, Kaylan Hunter of El Dorado, Alyssa Cottrell, Zachary Cottrell, Katelyn Cottrell and Nathan Cottrell, all of Tulsa.

GENELL RAULSTON
Genell Raulston, 60, of Calion, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at her home.
The daughter of Zack and Dorothy Williams, she was born May 8, 1947, in Plain Dealing, La. She was a member of Willow Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Calion. She was employed by Calion Lumber Co.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Isaac Nelson Raulston; a sister; and a stepson.
Survivors include one son, Edward Armstrong of Newark, Calif.; two stepsons, Cedric Raulston and Ivra Raulston of Little Rock; three daughters, Angela Hill of El Dorado, Rhonda Gafford of Little Rock, and Iris Raulston of Richardson, Texas; four brothers, Charles Holmes of Strong, Richard Williams, Cleveland Williams, and Ray Reed of Calion; two sisters, Lisa Moore of El Dorado, and Mary Williams of Calion; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Willow Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Calion with the Rev. Kennith Juniel Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Saint Paul Cemetery in El Dorado under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home.

IRA D. THOMPSON
Ira Darrrel Thompson, 65, of El Dorado, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Medical Center of South Arkansas following a lengthy illness.
Born June 10, 1942, in Three Creeks, he was the son of Dewey Odis and Annie Millican Thompson. He had been employed by the City of El Dorado for 32 years and had retired as street superintendent. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps and of the Baptist faith.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were a son, Todd Wallace, and a sister, Gay Scott.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy W. Thompson of El Dorado; a son, John W. Wallace of El Dorado; two daughters, Kimberly Reese (Mark McLemore) of El Dorado and Samantha Dougan (Terry) of Calion; and two sisters, Flo Cloud (Carl) of Waldo and Verda Shell of Monticello. Also surviving are grandchildren, Terry Dougan, Jonathan Welch, Courtney Wallace, MacKenzie Wallace, Chris Welch, Darrel Thompson, Lillian Dougan and Zackary McLemore.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

TRENIE C. SMITH
Trenie Christine Smith, 88, of Strong, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Timberlane Health and Rehabilitation Center in El Dorado.
The daughter of Mackie and Deanna Smith, she was born Aug. 7, 1919, in Strong. She was a member of Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Strong.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Perciel Smith; a daughter, Janice Smith Scott; three sisters, Viola Massey, Addie Smith and Nettie Lovett; three brothers, George Lee Smith, John T. Smith and Joe Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Jasmine Smith.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Truman Smith and his wife, Relda Faye, and Percy Lee Smith and his wife, Cindy, all of Strong; two sisters, Dorothy Leichmon of El Dorado, and Tressie Smith of Strong; 22 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Strong with Elder Larry Smith officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Strong under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home.

REV. CLAUDE E. TINER
The Rev. Claude Edward Tiner, 56, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at McLaren Regional Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 23, 1951, in Camden, the son of Linnie Mae Bryant Tiner and Chester Tiner. He attended Flint Community Schools until joining the Army, where he completed his education. He was a member of Judah Full Gospel Baptist Church. He was also a member of UAW Local 651 Spark Plug. He was preceded in death by his parents, Linnie and Chester Tiner; a brother, Jimmie Bryant; and a sister, Betty Mattox.
Survivors include four sisters, Annie Sue Gordan of Chesterfield, Mich., Corrine Richmond, Loretta Tanner and Patrice Askew, all of Flint, Mich.; three brothers, Sammy Tiner of El Dorado, and Larry and Nathaniel Bryant, both of Flint.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with family hour at 10:30 a.m. at Judah Full Gospel Baptist Church, G-5380 W. Pierson Road, in Flint. Benny Stribling will officiate.
Tiner will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., in Flint, and may be viewed from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday.

FLYNN BARNES JR.
Flynn Barnes Jr., 56, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock.
The son of Flynn Barnes Sr. and Pearlene Williams Barnes, he was born March 4, 1951, in El Dorado. He was employed as a machine operator at Polyethylene Containers, Inc. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. James Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, president of the Layman, and Sunday School superintendent.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Patsy Jean Barnes.
Survivors include one son, Flynn J. Barnes III of Jacksonville, N.C.; two daughters, Tracy L. Barnes and Kenya D. Barnes of El Dorado; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. George Calloway Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Lott Burgy Cemetery under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home.
Public viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

LOIS C. BORNMANN
Lois Clanton Bornmann, 91, of Magnolia, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at Life Touch Hospice House in El Dorado.
She was born Jan. 6, 1917, in Columbia County, to Hugh Massey and Pearl (Hicks) Clanton, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Magnolia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, T.W. Bornmann; two brothers, Eugene and John Roy Clanton; and three sisters, Bernice Wallace, Lucille Myers, and Hazel Wynns.

L.G. "Pat" Hickman, 77, of El Dorado, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at Life Touch Hospice House surrounded by family.
He was born Jan. 5, 1931, in El Dorado to William Edward Hickman and Lucille Lawton Hickman. He was a sergeant in the National Guard for nine years of service and an area superintendent at Lion Oil Refinery Co. He was a dedicated family man, loved fishing and the Razorbacks and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William E. and William L. Hickman; sister, Molly Dean Hickman; and a grandson, Micah Andrew Hickman.

Melba Hill Lee, 66, of Strong, died on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Medical Center of South Arkansas following a brief illness.
Born on April 6, 1941, in Union County, she was the daughter of Lee Roy and Coy Stegall Brown. Mrs. Lee was a member of Lawson Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing and playing bingo.
An avid gardener, she grew flowers and vegetables. She worked for over 20 years at El Dorado Printing.
Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Arthur Brown.

William Sykes Harris, 89, of Warren, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at his home.
The son of V.B. Harris and Luna Sykes Harris, he was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Bradley County. He received his education in the Warren Public School System. He attended Arkansas A&M College for two years and was a 1941 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He served as a pilot and instructor in the Eastern Flying Command division of the U.S. Army Corp., stationed at Moultrie, Ga., until the end of World War II.
He worked at Sam Dixon Hardwood Flooring Co. and Bradley Lumber Co. and founded Wilson Oak Flooring and Sykes Flooring Co. He served as past president of the American Parquet Association for 17 years. He was past member and president of the Warren Rotary Club, a recipient of the Bradley County Citizen of the Year Award, a founding member and past president of the Warren Country Club, a member of the First United Methodist Church, and past chairman of the administrative board of the church. He was director of Warren Bank and Trust Co. for 30 years. He served a 10-year term on the University of Arkansas board of trustees with two years as chairman. He was named honorary citizen of Fayetteville and presented a key to the city. He served as director of the University of Arkansas Foundation for 10 years, and was also a member of the Arkansas Cancer Research Center Board. In 1993, he received the Distinguished Service Award of the Razorback Foundation. In 1995, he received the University of Arkansas at Monticello Alumni Award for Achievement and Merit. He served as a director for the Cotton Bowl Association for five years, and was awarded the Chancellors Award from University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Steed Harris; and a son, William Sykes Harris Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Sally Harris Barnett of Casscoe; a sister, Frances Harris Hedrick of Warren; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church.

Dorothy Francis Perry passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, in Hot Springs.
She was born March 26, 1926, and was the daughter of Dorothy and Daniel Wood in Chico, Calif. and was raised in Fallon, Nev. Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Perry; her parents; daughters, Evon Lee and Diana Marie; and her brother, Danny Wood.
Survivors include her sister, Patty Gray; eight sisters-in-law; seven brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
After her travels as a military wife, Dottie retired to Hot Springs, where she enjoyed life with her husband, Bill, on their horse farm. She was a long-time resident at West Shores and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hot Springs.
Pallbearers will be David Mitchell, Dr. Gene France, Vincent France, Ken Daniel, Jim Daniel, and Stephen Kirsch. The family would like to extend their thanks to Debby Mitchell and Maria Moore for their loving care and support over the years.

Tom Haley, 90, of Warren, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
The son of John Thomas Haley Sr. and Mary Crook Haley, he was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Dermott. He received his education at Dermott Schools, Arkansas A&M, Hendrix College and George Washington University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and practiced law in Warren in the law firm of Martin and Haley. At his retirement, he was counsel to the firm of Haley, Claycomb, Roper and Anderson. He was a member of the Arkansas Bar Association. He was a member and an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Warren, where he served on the Building Committee. He was city attorney for the City of Warren from 1948 until 1986.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Bryan Haley; and a sister, Mildred Haley Graves.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Crow Haley.

Eleanor Blair Jones McMenis, 85, of Smackover, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, with her loving family by her side at Life Touch Hospice House.
She was born May 30, 1922, in Little Rock, to Homer Stacy and Nellie (Redditt White) Jones and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1939.
Eleanor attended Little Rock Junior College and graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1947 and earned her master's degree in education from Henderson State University in 1977. Eleanor retired as an elementary school teacher from the Smackover School District. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Union County Retired Teachers Association. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Maple Avenue Baptist Church. Eleanor was a Baptist pastor's wife and provided many ministries in different churches. She served as choir director, pianist, organist, youth director, Sunday School teacher, and was active in the Women's Missionary Union. She was a beloved mother and wonderful role model who loved people unconditionally. Upon her retirement from teaching, she followed her love of traveling and visited many wonderful places in Europe including the British Isle, as well as family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James Freeman McMenis; two brothers, J. Clyde and Victor L. White; and a sister, Thyra White Williams.
Survivors include two sons, James E. McMenis and Robert C. He was born June 25, 1943, in the Spotsville Community, to Louis Ogran Williams Sr. and Margie Marie Smith Williams. He was a maintenance manager for Delmar Apartments and was a member of Lawson Baptist Church. L.O. loved fishing, spending time with his family and the Razorbacks.

WILLIAM S. HARRIS
William Sykes Harris, 89, of Warren, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at his home.
The son of V.B. Harris and Luna Sykes Harris, he was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Bradley County. He received his education in the Warren Public School System. He attended Arkansas A&M College for two years and was a 1941 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He served as a pilot and instructor in the Eastern Flying Command division of the U.S. Army Corp., stationed at Moultrie, Ga., until the end of World War II.
He worked at Sam Dixon Hardwood Flooring Co. and Bradley Lumber Co. and founded Wilson Oak Flooring and Sykes Flooring Co. He served as past president of the American Parquet Association for 17 years. He was past member and president of the Warren Rotary Club, a recipient of the Bradley County Citizen of the Year Award, a founding member and past president of the Warren Country Club, a member of the First United Methodist Church, and past chairman of the administrative board of the church. He was director of Warren Bank and Trust Co. for 30 years. He served a 10-year term on the University of Arkansas board of trustees with two years as chairman. He was named honorary citizen of Fayetteville and presented a key to the city. He served as director of the University of Arkansas Foundation for 10 years, and was also a member of the Arkansas Cancer Research Center Board. In 1993, he received the Distinguished Service Award of the Razorback Foundation. In 1995, he received the University of Arkansas at Monticello Alumni Award for Achievement and Merit. He served as a director for the Cotton Bowl Association for five years, and was awarded the Chancellors Award from University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Steed Harris; and a son, William Sykes Harris Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Sally Harris Barnett of Casscoe; a sister, Frances Harris Hedrick of Warren; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Frazer's Funeral Home in Warren.

Dorothy Francis Perry passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, in Hot Springs.
She was born March 26, 1926, and was the daughter of Dorothy and Daniel Wood in Chico, Calif. and was raised in Fallon, Nev. Dottie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Perry; her parents; daughters, Evon Lee and Diana Marie; and her brother, Danny Wood.
Survivors include her sister, Patty Gray; eight sisters-in-law; seven brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
After her travels as a military wife, Dottie retired to Hot Springs, where she enjoyed life with her husband, Bill, on their horse farm. She was a long-time resident at West Shores and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hot Springs.
Pallbearers will be David Mitchell, Dr. Gene France, Vincent France, Ken Daniel, Jim Daniel, and Stephen Kirsch. The family would like to extend their thanks to Debby Mitchell and Maria Moore for their loving care and support over the years.

Tom Haley, 90, of Warren, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
The son of John Thomas Haley Sr. and Mary Crook Haley, he was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Dermott. He received his education at Dermott Schools, Arkansas A&M, Hendrix College and George Washington University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and practiced law in Warren in the law firm of Martin and Haley. At his retirement, he was counsel to the firm of Haley, Claycomb, Roper and Anderson. He was a member of the Arkansas Bar Association. He was a member and an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Warren, where he served on the Building Committee. He was city attorney for the City of Warren from 1948 until 1986.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Bryan Haley; and a sister, Mildred Haley Graves.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Crow Haley.
Committal services will be held at 3:45 p.m. Friday at Oakland Cemetery in Warren under the direction of Frazer's Funeral Home of Warren.

Eleanor Blair Jones McMenis, 85, of Smackover, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, with her loving family by her side at Life Touch Hospice House.
She was born May 30, 1922, in Little Rock, to Homer Stacy and Nellie (Redditt White) Jones and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1939.
Eleanor attended Little Rock Junior College and graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1947 and earned her master's degree in education from Henderson State University in 1977. Eleanor retired as an elementary school teacher from the Smackover School District. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Union County Retired Teachers Association. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Maple Avenue Baptist Church. Eleanor was a Baptist pastor's wife and provided many ministries in different churches. She served as choir director, pianist, organist, youth director, Sunday School teacher, and was active in the Women's Missionary Union. She was a beloved mother and wonderful role model who loved people unconditionally. Upon her retirement from teaching, she followed her love of traveling and visited many wonderful places in Europe including the British Isle, as well as family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James Freeman McMenis; two brothers, J. Clyde and Victor L. White; and a sister, Thyra White Williams.
Survivors include two sons, James E. McMenis and Robert C. McMenis and his wife, Kathy, of Smackover; two daughters, Deborah (Debbie) McMenis Jefcoate and her husband, Rex, of New Zealand, and Barbara McMenis Teaster-Hancock and Jackie of Benton; sister, Margaret Wann-Jacobs and her husband, Nelson, of Houston; sisters-in-law, Wanda McMenis and Lola McMenis, both of Shreveport, La.; grandchildren, Julie McMenis Dodson and her husband, Scott, of Katy, Texas, James Robert McMenis and his wife, Jennifer, of Denham Springs, La., Jeffrey Blair McMenis and his wife, Marcy,of Metairie, La., Chad, Todd, and Blake McMenis, all of Smackover, Catherine, Kevin, Alice, and Lisa Jefcoate, all of New Zealand, Susan Bott and Matthew of Springdale; great-grandchildren, Jessica McMenis, Joseph and Jace Dodson, James Logan McMenis, Zachary Joseph McMenis, Ryan Christopher Bott and Jye Cowley; and numerous other relatives and a host of loving friends.

F. Carl Hicks, 67, of Junction City, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Medical Center of South Arkansas following a sudden illness.
Born Sept. 19, 1940, in Palmetto, La., he was the son of Jonathan "Johnny" and Thelma Golmon Hicks. A retired truck driver, he worked for several local companies, Great Lakes Chemical and Prescolite.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eleanor Hicks; and a son, Timothy Hicks.

The daughter of Ellis and Mayola Gaines Parker, she was born Oct. 27, 1950, in El Dorado. She was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Urbana. She was valedictorian of Gardner High School in 1968. She attended Mountain View Junior College in Dallas, where she received a realtor's license. She was employed at Georgia Pacific in Crossett for 14 years before she retired.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mayola Parker; two brothers, King David Parker and Ellis Parker Jr.; and one sister, Clistine Evans.

Born in a log cabin on Sept. 21, 1917, in Lincoln County, Ky., she was the daughter of a skilled carpenter and minister, the Rev. Charles Irvin Snowden and Bertie Fleming Snowden. Alice grew up near Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Prior to her leaving in 1937 for Anderson College in Anderson, Ind., she had taught Sunday School at the age of 12, and became superintendent of Sunday School at age 16 in a church with a membership of 500. She traveled with her brother, Roscoe, singing in various churches. She was a sharp fashion designer and dresser, and worked for a major Louisville department store. Through the years she directed school and church choirs, worked with children and directed plays. Before her retirement she was an interior design consultant in Sarasota, Fla.
Alice was a homemaker, an excellent seamstress and a devoted mother and a creative minister's wife. She co-pastored with her husband of 69 years, the Rev. Robert Alex Adams, in the states of Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Alabama. She was a lifelong member of the Women of the Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ruth Snowden Watts, all of Kentucky; and great-granddaughter Avery Brooke Markovich of Indiana.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Robert Alex Adams of El Dorado; a brother, the Rev. Roscoe Snowden of Anderson; and three children, Robert Allen Adams and his wife, Ruth Fraysur Adams, of Henderson, Nev., a daughter, Marilyn Sue Grubbs and her husband, Perry, of Okolona, Miss., and a son, Charles Douglas Adams of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Frances Marie Adams Almeido and her husband, Patrick, of Henderson, Reagan Scott Grubbs and his wife, Andrea, of Anderson, Aleesha Quay Grubbs Ball and her husband, William Hudson Ball III, of Carlsbad, Calif., and Alexander Snowden Sterling Grubbs of Lake Wales, Fla. There are five surviving great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one nephew, Joe Snowden and his wife, Jane, of Clearwater, Fla.; and three nieces, Pat Watts of Lexington, Ky., Kay Watts of Casselberry, Fla., and Juanita Watts Walker and her husband, Richard, of Granville, Ohio.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at First Church of God with the Rev. Dalyn Helbling, former pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in El Dorado. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

BOBBIE L. DENNIS
Bobbie L. Steed Dennis, 65, of Camden, died on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Ouachita County Medical Center.
She was a homemaker and a member of El Dorado Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus J. (Ras) and Hazel Wingfield Steed; five brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Dennis of Camden; three daughters, Joy Word and husband, Robert, of Camden, Jan Lasater and husband, Blake, of Bella Vista and Denise Colby and husband, Tom, of Sparks, Nev.; a brother, Billy Don Steed of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren, Grant and Jonathan Colby, Dillion and Cole Word, Jacob and Jesna Cornelius.
Proctor Funeral Home in Camden is in charge of arrangements.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at Timothy United Methodist Church with burial in Caney Cemetery.

Eddie Glover, 70, of El Dorado, died on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at his residence.

DIANA K. GREEN
Diana Kay Miller Green, 50, of El Dorado, died on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at her home in Plumerville.
She was born on April 1, 1957, in El Dorado to Billy Joe Miller, Sr. and Lillis Ann Sellers Young. She was a housewife who loved her family, her special pets Little "D" and Bambi, cooking and fishing.
Preceding her in death were her mother; nephews Jarrell and Edwin Parker; and a niece, Kimberly Miller.
Survivors include her husband, Jay M. Green of Plumerville; her father, Bill Miller Sr. of Three Creeks; sons Christopher Todd Anglin of Dallas, Texas, and Marcus Colvin of Ruston, La.; daughters Kristen Ann Colvin of Dallas, and Johannah Green of Bowden, Ga.; a brother, Billy Miller Jr. and Sharon of Three Creeks; and a sister, Teresa Valentine and husband, Mickey, of Smackover.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Jersey with the Rev. Wendell Miller officiating.
Interment will be in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors in El Dorado.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

WOODROW W. HARRIS
Woodrow Wilson "Pete" Harris, 91, of Huttig, died on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado following a long illness.
Born on Sept. 3, 1916, in Clair, Miss., he was the son of James Edward and Alice Elizabeth Harrison Harris. He was of the Baptist faith and had a kind and generous heart.
Woodrow worked as a farmer in his early life. He learned how to weld during the World War II and worked in the shipyards in Mobile, Ala., and Bremerton, Wash.
After the war he worked in sawmills as a welder in Crossett and later Huttig, retiring from Riverwood International in Huttig.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and carpentry.
Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Grady and Victor Harris; a daughter, Linnie Kimbrough; an infant son, John Edward Harris; a grandson, Jonathan Beeson; and his wife of 71 years, Floy Harrington Harris.
Survivors are daughters Elowese Walker of El Dorado and Carol Pill of Huttig; a sister, Estelle Edwards of Danville, Va.; eight grandchildren, Michael and Kevin Walker, Debbie Baker, Ramona Justice, Mary White, John Edward Beeson, Teresa Millican and Cheryl Dougherty; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m., on Monday in Arlington Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Phillip Pinckard officiating.
The family will receive friends at Bailey Funeral Home in El Dorado from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday.

SAMMY R. PARKER
Sammy R. Parker, 74, of Camden, died on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008.
He was a lifetime resident of Camden. He retired after 40 years of service with International Paper Co., in Camden.
He is remembered as an avid fisherman and camper.
His parents, Elvin and Effie Parker, and brother, Lavern Parker, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margie Parker; one daughter, Marilyn Walker and husband, Gary, of Buena Vista; two sons, Richard and Johnny Parker, both of Camden; six grandchildren, Monica and Eric Gowie, Timothy, April, Amanda and Adam Parker; and two nieces, Bonita Landon and Barbara Bever.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Proctor Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Bethesda Cemetery under the direction of Proctor Funeral Home in Camden.

NATHANIEL PENEGAR
Nathaniel Penegar, 68, of Los Angeles, formerly of Emerson, died on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in Los Angeles.
Survivors include three sons, Nathan Penegar of Los Angeles, Michael and James Penegar, both of Beaumont, Texas; a daughter, Sandra Wallace of Many, La.; his mother, Jewel Penegar of Emerson; brothers Arthaniel Penegar of Zwolle, La., Zackery Penegar Jr. of Port Allen, La., and George Penegar of Inglewood, Calif.; two sisters, Vereasia and Penny Penegar of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Forrest Grove CME Church in Emerson with the Rev. Gladys Fields officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Grove Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. under the direction of Henderson's Funeral Service in Magnolia.

JOHN W. PICKERING
John William Pickering, 87, of Snyder, Texas, died on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, in Claremore, Okla.
John was born in El Dorado on Feb. 28, 1920. He served his country in the Pacific Theater during World II as a navigator aboard a C46 aircraft and was discharged as a second lieutenant from the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1945.
John then began his career with Lion Oil Co., and moved to Snyder in 1950 to help establish the Diamond "M" Gas Plant. He retired as the Monsanto plant manager in 1982.
He was a member of Union Methodist Church, serving as treasurer for many years. He volunteered at the senior center.
He is survived by his wife, Velma (Bauldree) Pickering; daughters Julia Ann Jones of San Antonio, Texas, Susan Coats of Oklahoma City and Cindy Bissett of Claremore; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Cameron of Parkers Chapel; and two brothers, Chuck of Altharetta, Ga., and James of Mayflower, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Retha Lee Pickering; a son, John William Pickering Jr.; his parents, George Dewey and Lou Anna; one sister, Elizabeth Purdue; and four brothers, Cecil, Paul, Fletcher and George.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Monday in Bell-Cypert-Seale Chapel with the Rev. Claude McKiddy officiating.
Interment will be in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home in Snyder.

JAMES M. ROSE
James M. Rose, 45, of Magnolia, died on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Wadley Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.
Arrangements will be announced by Henderson's Funeral Service in Magnolia.
