OLD UNION BAPTIST CHURCH
CEMETERY
Est. ca 1890.
Located in
Union County, Arkansas, about 1/10 th of a mile from Hwy.63 East (aka Morro
Bay Rd.). The
cemetery sits in a "Y" in the road; In front of the Union Baptist
Church, is
Crain City Road; Armer Road runs along
the back side of the cemetery, with the cemetery
facing both
Armer Rd. & Crain City Rd.. My first survey was done Oct 2002. Updated May
2004, using my
earlier survey & earlier surveys done by the DAR, and Basil & Lillian
Craig
& Ralph
Weldon in October 1995. Updated:
2007> 2008 >June 2009, from obituaries &
family info. This
survey is in memory of my friend Lillian S. McGowen Craig, who died
May 15, 2004
& is buried alongside her husband Frank McGowen. Years before I
started
collecting cemetery info, Those mentioned above were surveying all the
cemeteries in
the county. Janice Holzer JCSH432@gmail.com

ROBERTA "BERTIE"
O'BARR BRAMLETT (74)
1858 Rome, Georgia ~ 1934 El Dorado, AR *OB
*Bertie was a childhood
schoolmate of the first Mrs. Woodrow Wilson. She died
Saturday morning at the
family home, First & March Streets. Services were held
at the Union Church with
Rev. David Shepperson & the Rev. H.M. Geran in charge.
Mrs.
Bramlett was injured a week ago,
when an automobile backed into her as
she was crossing the
street near the family home. He hip
was badly crushed and
despite heroic effort to
live, she passed away Saturday morning.
Burial plans were
in charge of the Barton
Funeral Home. Mrs. Bramlett had lived
in El Dorado for
almost 40 years. She came here from Rome, GA. It was there she attended school
with Helen Louise
Axson, who later became Mrs. Woodrow Wilson.
She is survived by one

*Roberta
was the seventh of nine children. born in Mena, ARK.
*Parents
of a still-born son in 1937.
*Another
son, Michael Brent Evans, born Dec 1944.
*Roberta
graduated from high school at Hatfield, ARK
*She
married Boyce
Raymond Evans, in August 1936..
*In
1936-37, they moved to the Lawson-Urbana area, where they had a
200
acre farm / ranch, raising beef cattle. Boyce was a heavy equipment
operator
in the area. Once Boyce died, and a year later her only son,
had
left home to attend college, Roberta found herself having to run a
farm
& cattle Ranch. Due the benevolence of Dr. Kenneth Duzan, she took
employment
as a laboratory technician in hematology, at the hospital in
El
Dorado. She worked at the hospital
until her retirement in 1980. Due to
her
frugality & management of the
ranch, she converted the ranch property
from
stock production to a pine timber plantation & moved to a home in El
Dorado,
in
1969. In 1980, Roberta moved to Hot
Springs, where she resided until her death.
She
is survived by her only child, son, Michael Brent Evans of Hot Springs, AR.
She
was a lifelong southern Baptist.

to 4-19-1968
*D/of
Stephen D. Sullivant (1854-1902) & Mary Jane Sullivant (1865-1937) .
*According
to family researchers, when Allen died in 1930, Mary Frances
was
left with 5 children to raise, the oldest son was, Garland Donald Finley,
who
was about 12 yrs of age. Mary tried
taking in boarders & farming to sustain
her
family & Garland held down two paper delivery jobs, but it was not enough.
The
children were split up, ca Sept 1932, with some temporarily taken in
by
various kin folk; some ended up in foster homes.
Garland
stayed on with his mother, floating between her & his grandmother,
Mary
Jane Sullivant. The splitting up of the family caused a permanent riff
between
Mary & her children. Mary Frances
lived out her life alone on
80
rural acres, in a tin-roofed shack on the Ouachita River.

Robert Martin(1904-1953) & Dollie
Rowland Martin(1907-2000)
Bob
started life as a preemie, weighing 2 pounds. The hospital had in the neo natal
care
unit, a box with light bulbs to keep premature babies warm. His parents could
not
take him home until Austin built a similiar unit to use at home. Bob
graduated
from El Dorado High School in
1950. His career took him & his
family
to
live in Shrevport, Miami, Chicago, New York, New Orleans, San Antonio &
Pleasanton,
California, but when he retired, he returned to his roots in El Dorado.
He
was of the Baptist faith. He developed
an interest in airplanes at an early age,
which
led to a career as a flight engineer for Eastern Airlines in Miami, FL. Later he
flew
for World Airways in California & spent the next 25 years traveling to all
parts
of the world. He was stationed in
Indonesia & Mali for several months.
He
flew some of the last flights out of Da Nang in 1975. He is survived by his
wife
of 63 years, Wilda, and daughter,
Kathryn Nielsen.

*Some confusion whether this is his burial
place or Ebenezer Methodist
Cemetery,
located 3 or 4 miles up the road or 3-4 miles up /down
the road at "Old" Union Baptist Cemetery. I have listed him on both sites.
His parents are buried
at Ebenezer Methodist..
As of April 2012,
he did not have a
marker at either cemetery. I also checked
Ebenezer
Presbyterian,
where it is asserted he is buried
(Find-A-Grave) but he
is not found there & I believe this to be incorrect.
I have his obituary,
& I believe they meant either
Ebenezer
Methodist or
"Old" Union Baptist Cemetery,
where he also has kin
buried.
