(SARAH) AUGUSTA CALDWELL CUNNALS
8-1-1881 to 10-2-1902
*Wife
of Edd
Cunnals.
*Her tombstone is
broken & lying flat on the ground.
There is much confusion about the surname Gunnals or Cunnals. When I
last visited the
cemetery, I chalked the tombstone &
took a picture. In the photo
I took, it clearly shows a "C" making the name CUNNALS.
However, other researchers, most likely kin, give Augusta’s
first name along
with her maiden
name, but they give GUNNALS as
the surname.
*On other listings, it is listed strictly under
Gunnals .
However, reviewing the photos I took, it is very
clearly spelled
CUNNALS, not GUNNALS (There
is no “E” in it on the tombstone.)
What is totally illegible is the given name before Cunnals. Even
though there
is a large crack running thru this name, I have finally
deciphered it as being
"EDD",
one of William Edward Cunnals's nic-names.
The other one was "Eddie".
I have listed Augusta
under both CUNNALS and GUNNALS;
Cunnals being the name given on the tombstone. .

(SARAH) AUGUSTA
CALDWELL GUNNALS

Wife
of, William
Edward "Eddie" Gunnals(1874-1910).
*Augusta
& Edd Gunnals *Md: in 1898,
Union County, Arkansas
*Her tombstone is broken & lying flat on the ground,.
The break in the stone
runs thru ' Wife
of "EDD" CUNNALS '
"She was too
good, too gentle and fail- -. To dwell in this cold
world of care.
There is much confusion about the surname Gunnals or
Cunnals. When I last
visited the cemetery,
I chalked the tombstone &
took a picture.
In the photo I took, it clearly shows a "C"
making the name CUNNALS.
However, other researchers, give Augusta’s maiden name, as Caldwell,
but they give GUNNALS as the
surname.
*On other listings,
it is listed strictly under Gunnals . However, reviewing the
photos I took, it is very clearly spelled CUNNALS, not GUNNALS
What is totally illegible is the
given
name before Cunnals.
The tombstone says
after
Augusta's name......."Wife
of (? the initials/
name has
a large crack running thru these 3 letters---I
have now been
able to decipher this
as being not initials, but the nic-name of
"EDD", which William
Edward "Eddie"
or "EDD" Cunnals used.
I
have listed Augusta under CUNNALS, (& also Gunnals)
as I see it, but in
the event it is misspelled on the
tombstone, the descendants
would know & the correct listing would be
Gunnals.. *See CUNNALS listing.

obituary
in the
Shreveport
Times on January 12, 2019.
*Note:
his widow, Billie Cameron has
taken
over some of her late husband's
responsibilities. As of August 2019,
a
new chain link fence has replaced
the
old fence. Also overhanging limbs from
the
trees surrounding the perimeter
have
been trimmed back.....as per
the
request of the late Charles Derwood
Cameron's
wishes. *Note: go to end/last page:
*I
believe the above covered grave belongs to either the
Harper
or Brown family.
*View
inside---very grown up with weeds, vines, etc.
Wooden
structure does not appear to be stable—at least
I
decided it was not worth crawling in there to try to see what
was
on the broken stones. (2011)

you wish to have more history, or info, on the Pleasant Hill
Cemetery....or

I would
recommend you contact RON PONDER

*Mr.
Ponder's ancestors from the
"GOZA" family
played a
part in donating land for the establishment of
Pleasant
Hill & Pleasant Grove Cemeteries;
later
these
two cemeteries along with Curtis Grove
were
merged / consolidated as far as the land
ownership. Mr. Ponder cited above has more concise
info
about the origins of these three cemeteries.
*Note: There is a black Pleasant Hill Cemetery,
located
Southeast
of Strong, probably on or near Aurelle Rd. ....
down
toward the Louisiana state line.
