Ottis Lee Whelchel was born April 5, 1921 in Jim Fork, Sebastian Co., Arkansas to Othel Lee & Lela Vernell Kinnerson Whelchel. June 16, 1941 Ottis living at Midland, Sebastian Co., Ar. married Opal Nadean Shrum from Hartford, Sebastian Co., Ar. They divorced October 11, 1944. Ottis' second wife was Phyllis M. Adams, from Tower City, Schuylkill, Pennsylvanie on October 23, 1945. February 16, 1942 Ottis registered for the military draft at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. He was living in Midland, Sebastian Co., Ar. at that time. He enlisted with the US Army July 13, 1942 at Little Rock, Arkansas. He states he has completed 3 years of high school and his occupation was unskilled construction worker. He achieved the rank of Corporal before his enlistment was up. Ottis Lee Whelchel passed away October 30, 1997 and is buied at Grassy Hollow Baptist Church Cemetery in Washington County, Missouri.
