June 30, 1942 Elet registered for the military draft at Fort
Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. He enlisted in the Army November 13, 1942, stating
he is single. His education was Grammar School and his occupation was
"Semiskilled chauffeurs and drivers, bus, taxi, truck, and tractor".
Elet served in the US Army in the Signal Corps as a Tec4.
The United States Army Signal Corps is a branch of the United States Army that creates and
manages communications and information systems for the command and control of
combined arms forces.
During World War II. more than ever before, success in combat depended on good
communications. Commanders using field radios could maintain continuous contact
with their troops during rapid advances. At its peak strength in the fall of 1944,
the Signal Corps comprised over 350,000 officers and men, more than six times as
many as had served in the first World War. The Signal Corps had responsibility
for one of the most important systems used during World War II - Radar.
January 7, 1951 Elet Daniel Vaughn passed away at the Colonial Hospital in
Fort Smith, Ar. at 29 years old.
