Robert Lloyd Temple
1906-1972

Robert Lloyd Temple was born March 25, 1906 at Ripley, Layderdale, Tenn. to Robert Featherston & Ella Myrtle Lloyd Temple. June 1, 1944 he married Marjorie Kendall at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. They met while he was stationed at Camp Chaffee there.

A correct beginning date for his service in the US Army has not been found but we know he was already a 1st Sergeant when he married in 1944. U.S. Veterans' Gravesites records give his dates of service as "Service Start Date: 15 Nov 1949, Service End Date: 31 Jan 1954." He served in Korea as well as WWII.

At the bottom of his head stone is "BSM-PH-ARCOM" abbreviation for Bronze Star Medal which is a awarded to members of the US Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone. The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving, and the Army Commendation Medal is awarded to servicemen and women, except general officers, who, while serving alongside the U.S. Army after Pearl Harbor distinguished themselves by heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.

Robert Lloyd Temple passed away June 28, 1972 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. and is buried in the National Cemetery there.
