Herman Carl Steele was born July 28, 1923 in Beverly, Sebastian co., Ar. to Elbert Lee & Mary Kate Smith Steele. July 24, 1943 Herman married Ruth Wilson in Franklin Co., Ar. Both Herman and Ruth were from Lavaca, Sebastian Co., Ar. June 30, 1942 Herman registered for the military draft at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. His employer at that time was A. B. Harper in Fort Smith, Ar. May 26, 1943 he enlisted in the US Navy. No further information has been found about his time in the service. His discharge date was December 15, 1945. Burial was in Hickory Ridge Cemetery east of Lavaca, under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Lavaca. Mr. STEELE was born July 28, 1923 in Lavaca. He died Tuesday, May 24, 2005 in Greenwood, Ark. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Brenda and Kathy; two sons, Herman Jr. and Greg; four sisters, Barbara, Virginia, Lucy, and Mary; four brothers, Elbert, Jesse, Kenneth and Eugene; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
