James registered for the military draft June 29, 1942 at the courthouse in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.
On his draft card he gives his address as being on the Jenny Lind road in Fort Smith and Tillie Simpson
as his contact. He's employed by Oscar Self at the Fort Smith Printing Co. He enlisted in the US Army.
There is no further information about his time in the military except his final rank was Sgt.
James Franklin Simpson passed away April 2, 2014 in Fort Smith Sebastian Co., Ar. and was
buried in the National Cemetery at Fort Smith.

James F. Simpson, 89, was welcomed into God's kingdom on April 2, 2014.
James was preceded in death by his parents George Barney and Tillie Simpson, his three brothers, John B.
Simpson (Margie), Donald D. Simpson (Amber), Cooper T Simpson (Elizabeth), and one sister, Katherine
Simpson Butcher.
He was survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dolores Lillian Wade Simpson; four daughters Kathy Finch
(Jimmy), Janie Gurisco (Charlie), Debbie Eberman (Bill), and Glenda Simpson; eight grandchildren, Hallie
Wilson (Phil), Jimmie Kay Finch, Monte Clair Greer (James), Jamie Freyaldenhoven, Natalie Gurisco, Ashley
Gurisco, Micah James Eberman (Amy), Audra Warzynkski (Kurt); and nine great-grandchildren Phillip, James
Paul, Noah, Juna, Kellan James, Riley, Cale, Presley, and Gage.
Jim was a proud World War II veteran, serving as Sergeant in the U.S. Army who bravely fought for his
country in Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France, and Central Europe. His service earned him a good conduct
medal, a WWII victory medal, and an EAME (European, African, Middle Eastern) theater ribbon with four bronze
service stars. He served his community as a fireman where he retired as a captain from the Fort Smith Fire
Department after 20 years of service in 1970. He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge 706.
Jim was a proud soldier, a courageous fireman, a brother, a son, "he was the love of my life," says Dolores,
"a loving father," say his girls, and a hero to his grandchildren. We loved him for his heart, we honor him
for his bravery, and we thank him for his loyalty. He will be loved and missed forever.
Service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Edward Ellis officiating, at 11am Tuesday, April 8th.
Burial at the National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be The Fort Smith Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Gurisco, Fred
Sebastian, Bill Eberman, Bill Wagner, Jim Finch, Ron Sebastian and Micah James Eberman.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis-Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith, AR.
