Joseph Scalet was born in 1918 at Hartford, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Giuseppe "Joseph" & Andreanna Notta Scalet. Joseph Scalet enlisted in the Army Air Corps on Aug 7, 1940 at Tulsa, Ok. TSGT Joseph "Joe" Scalet was attached to the 577 Bomb Squad 8th Army Air Coprs and was killed in action Dec 2, 1944 at 1300 hours near Sargenroth, 8 km east of Kirchberg/Hunstruck in Germany. The aircraft exploded in the air. TSGT Scalet was buried in 1948 & this date was placed on his memorial. Later a 4 was stamped on the 8 on his memorial. (note from find a grave) Joe played football for University of Arkansas. The High School football field in Hartford, Arkansas was named in his honor, Scalet Field.
