Walter Eugene Scales, Jr. 1915-1983
Walter Eugene Scales was bon December 18, 1915 in Sebastian Co., Ar. to
Walter Eugene, Sr & Toy Beatrice Leak Scales. April 2, 1939 he married
Amy Ruth Allen in Washington Co., Ar. both being residents there at that time.
Walter registered for the military draft October 16, 1940 at Belle Point School in
Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. November 4, 1943 he enlisted in the US Army and served
until August 13, 1947 serving in WWII as well as Korea. His last rank with the Army was Lt Col.
Lt Col Walter Eugene Scales, Jr. passed away October 27, 1983 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. and
was buried in the National Cemetery at Fort Smith, Ar.

Walter E. "Gene" Scales, 67 of 3719 Hendricks Circle died Thursday at a Fort Smith
hospital. He was a retired Army colonel, former city police officer, emergency
coordinator for Sebastian County and deputy sheriff. He was also a member of the
First United Methodist Church
Funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Burial
will be at National Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Amy Allen Scales, a son, Lt. Walter E. Scales Jr. of
Alexander in La. and one grandson.
Pallbearers will be Ira and Howard James, Charles Johnson, Fuller Glidewell, Bill
Cauthron, and Les Coleman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Smith Boys Club and the First United
Methodist Church.
