Virgil Lee Reeder was born March 19, 1919 in Marion Twsp., Sebastian Co., Ar. to David Nathaniel & Nannie Ruth Sparks Reeder. On the 1 Mar 1942 Virgil married Juanita Dodson. Virgil states his residence is in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. and Juanita is from Arkoma, LeFlore, Oklahoma. The marriage took place in Sebastian Co., Ar. Virgil enlisted in the US Army July 13, 1942 at Little Rock, Ar. stating he attended Grammer School and was in general farm work. Soon he was a Pfc. in the 317th Infantry 80th Division. Pfc. Reeder was attached as a Light Machine Gunner with the 317th Infantry Regiment. 3rd Battalion Div. 80th Infantry Division, Squadron: I Company. On Sep 14, 1944 Pfc. Virgil Reeder was killed in action. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal for his sacrifice. Pvt Reeder was buried at the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial at Saint-Avold, Departement de la Moselle, Lorraine, France.
