Walter Scott Reed was born 9th of Mar, 1922 in Oklahoma to Walter S. and Sadie Correll Reed. He finished 2 yrs of college before the war.
Walter enlisted in the US Army Air Corps at Little Rock, Arkansas on 12 November 1942. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a industry clerk.

S/Sgt Walter Scott Reed was assigned to the 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, 561st Bomber Squadron as a Right Waist Gunner.
On 6 Mar 1944 S/Sgt Reed was killed after a bomb run. On the return route, in the vicinity of Quakenbruck, the B-17, was struck by #42-37886 which had been badly damaged by German aircraft. Flames were seen coming out from the cockpit and the #3 engine, and the vertical tail fin was partially shot off. The airplane pulled out of formation slightly and three parachutes came out. Then the airplane started to climb and went up into the lead squadron, striking airplane 42-40054. which caused them both to crash near Schoonberkerveld, southeast of Emmen, Holland (Netherlands). S/Sgt Walter Reed was killed along with four other crew members.
S/Sgt Reed is buried or memorialized at Plot L Row 14 Grave 11, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. This is an American Battle Monuments Commission location. S/Sgt Reed was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
