Walter Hugo "Chuck" Nolte

Walter Hugo "Chuck" Nolte was born January 2, 1925 in Subiaco, Logan Co., Ar. to Josef & Gertrude Spanke Nolte, both born in Germany. Walter attended Academy in Logan Co., Ar.

Walter enlisted in the US Marine Corp serving as a Private with 22nd Marine Regiment, 6th Marine Division. The 22nd Marine Regiment was commissioned in 1942 and was placed under the command of the 1st Provisional Marine Brigade, and the 6th Marine Division. It took part in fighting at the battles of Eniwetok, Guam, and Okinawa.

On June 18, the 22nd Marines embarked for the Pacific theater, where the 1st and 2nd battalions were used for island defense. The 22nd Marine regiment was replaced with 500 Marines and Navy corpsmen that were excess with the 3rd Marine Division and replacements from the United States. This greatly reduced the number of experienced Marines, corpsmen, and leaders within the regiment just prior to the Battle of Guam in July.

Pvt Nolte was killed fighting on Guam July 26, 1944. He was buried in Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific
