Lester Enoch Nixon was born January 4, 1917 at Prairie, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Elzie Bell & Ida Ellen Gross Nixon. September 21, 1938 he filled out the marriage license in Sebastian Co., Ar. for his marriage to Margaret Holland.

No records of Lester's service in the US Army in WWII have been found. His service is mentioned in his obituaries. Several researchers show that he enlisted in Georgia but that Lester Nixon was Lester C. not E., and Lester C. was born in Georgia.

Lester Enoch Nixon passed away at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar October 6, 2011. His last known address according to the Social Security records was Huntington, Sebastian Co., Ar. His obituaries list his place of residence as Witcherville. Sebastian Co., Ar.

January 4, 1917 - October 6, 2011
Lester Nixon, 94, of Witcherville, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.\ He was born January 4, 2017 in Clarks Chapel to Elzie B. and Ida Gross Nixon. Lester was a veteran of the U.S. Army and World War II, a Deacon of Fellowship Baptist Church in Witcherville, and retired from General Electric in Fort Smith. He was recently selected to be inducted into the Mansfield Wall of Honor at Mansfield High School.

He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Margaret Holland Nixon; two sisters, Ruby Hearn and Edris Dell; two brothers, Elmer and Alfred Nixon,and a great -great-grandson, Cooper Dewey.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Thompson and husband, Bennie, of Witcherville, and Janice Terry and husband, Earl, of Greenwood; two sisters, Bernice Golyar of Battle Creek, MI. and Margie McCartney of Monticello, AR; seven grandchildren, Roger Thompson and wife, Tammy, Kendra Dewey and husband,Tom, Steve Thompson and wife, Jackie, Susan Thompson, Regina Thompson and husband, Scott, Randy Terry and wife, Kristi, and Lance Terry and wife, Shawna; twelve great-grandchildren, Jason Thompson and wife Christy, Chad Thompson and wife Jacy, Tyler, Sterling, Hannah and Canyon Dewey, Zachary, Tanner and Blake Thompson, Katy Valdez and husband Jose, Maegan Thompson, and Allyson Terry; one great-great-granddaughter, Blair Thompson, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 10, 2011 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Witcherville with interment at Clark's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and honorary pallbearers are the staff of Chapel Ridge Nursing Home.

Viewing will be from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M. Sunday, October 9th at the funeral home where the family will visit with friends from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M.

The family requests that memorials be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 685, Greenwood, AR in lieu of flowers.

Mr. Lester Nixon, formerly of Witcherville, Arkansas, died 10/06/2011. He was the h/o Margaret Nixon, they had been married for 75 years.

He was an ARMY veteran of World War II; a deacon at Fellowship Baptist Church; and a retired employee of General Electric of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Mr. Nixon is survived by two daughters: Linda Thompson and her husband Benny, of Witcherville, Arkansas and Janice Terry and her husband Earl, of Greenwood, Arkansas; one brother, Bob Holland and his wife Rachael of Van Buren, Arkansas; seven grandchildren: Roger Thompson and wife Tammy of Mansfield, Arkansas, Kendra Dewey and husband Tom of Lavaca, Arkansas, Steve Thompson and wife Jackie of Springdale, Susan Thompson of Mansfield, Arkansas, Regina Thompson and husband Scott of Fort Smith, Randy Terry and wife Kristy of Greenwood, and Lance Terry and wife Shawna of Greenwood; and 12 great-grandchildren, Jason Thompson and wife Christy, of Mansfield, Arkansas, Chad Thompson and wife: Jacy, of Mansfield, Arkansas, Tyler, Sterling, Hannah and Canyon Dewey, Zachary, Tanner and Blake Thompson, Katy Thompson, Maegan Adcock and husband Seth, and Allyson Terry; and several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Margaret Nixon; 2 sisters: Ruby Hearn and Edris Dell; 2 brothers: Alfred Nixon and Elmer Nixon; and 1 great-great-grandson: Cooper Dewey.

Funeral service was held on Monday, October 10, 2011, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Witcherville, Arkansas.

Pallbearers were his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Chapel Ridge Nursing Home.

Mr. Nixon was laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Margaret.
