Grady Dale Newman 1920-1986
Grady Dale Newman was born November 26, 1920 at Greenwood, Sebastian Co., Ar. to
Jeff Leander and Mattie Franklin Boatman Newman.
Dale filed for divorce from Sue Taylor Newman. They had married at Charleston, Franklin Co., Ar.
April 28, 1950 and filed for divorce November 17, 1952. Grady then married
Mary Ellen McGowen December 20, 1952 at Lavaca, Sebastian Co., Ar. where they
were both residents.
Dale registered for the military draft February 16, 1942 Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.
June 2, 1942 Dale enlisted in the US Navy. His discharge date was November 15, 1949.
Dec 20, 1942 Dale was aboard the USS President Tyler bound from Hawaii to
the mainland.
The USS President Taylor was a cargo-liner, ex President Polk, ex Granite State, requisitioned
for war service in December 1941 and allocated by the War Shipping Administration to
the U.S. Army and operating as a troopship in the Pacific Ocean in World War II when
grounded and eventually lost on 14 February 1942. (Obviously the last date is incorrect)
Grady Dale Newman passed away 30 Nov 1986 in California and was buried at the
Searles Valley Cemetery, Trona, San Bernardino County, California.
