(named after his wife) Nicklaus John Minden was born 24 Jul 1919 in Charleston, Franklin Co., Ar. to Nicholas Theodore & Katherine "Kate" Yunker Minden. He graduated in 1938 from Subiaco Academy near Fort Smith. On 16 Oct 1940 Nick John Minden registered for the draft at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co. Ar. On 14 Jul 1941 in Jackson, Ms. Nicklaus J Minden, b. 1919, enlisted as a private in the Air Corps. He is single and he had finished 4 years of high school. Soon Minden had the rank of Master Sergeant attached to 341st Bomber Group, Medium, 491st Bomber Squadron. (491st Bombardment Squadron (Medium), was constituted and activated in India during World War II. It participated in combat in the China-Burma-India Theater until the end of the war, where it earned a Distinguished Unit Citation. Following V-J Day, it returned to the US and was inactivated.) On April 27, 1943 Nicklaus married Patricia Clair Mock in Albany, Ga. The newspaper announcement of Nick and Pat's upcoming wedding mentions that Nicklaus J. Minden is in the US Army Air Force and that he had worked for Ead's Brothers before the war. In the 1946 Albany, Ga city directory Nicholas and Patricia are living at 1529 Sylvester Rd.
