Albert Marvin McKinney was born 30 Dec 1924 in Sebastian Co. Ar. to Henry Elmer & Sibyl Hood McKenney. He attended Fort Smith High School.

Albert enlisted in the US Navy on December 23, 1942. He served as a Sonarman Second Class, (SoM2c) U.S.S. YMS-103.

April 8, 1945 YMS-103, a Minesweeper, was patrolling off the coast of Okinawa. An enemy mine exploded under the U.S.S. PMG-18 lifting her stern completely out of the war. YMS-103 was sent to assist survivors of PMG-18 off Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands.

During this assist an explosion blew the bow off the YMS-103. The YMS-103 was later intentionally beached in territory held by the United States ground forces and declared a total loss.

YMS-103 lost 5 crew members in this explosion. Sonarman Second Class Albert McKinney was one of the 5 "Killed In Action" during this operation. SoM2c McKinney was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated to the National Cemetery at Fort Smith, Ar. on March 28, 1949.
