Dannie McCorkle was born March 12, 1919 in Columbus, Hempstead Co., Ar. to William Wilson & Lennie Masalius Sipes McCorkle. Dannie had a twin brother David. In 1940 the McCorkle family was living in Howard Co., Ar. Dannie married Eliza Lavrne Wilkirson on December 21, 1946, Both residents of Greenwood, Sebastian Co., Ar. October 16, 1940 Dannie registered for the military draft in Blackland, Howard, Ar. Dannie enlisted in the US Army September 8, 1942 at Little Rock, Arkasas. His residence was Howard Co. Ar. In May or November 1944 Pvt. McCorkle was admitted to the hospital. (the record shows he was admitted Nov 1944 and released May 1944). His military branch was listed as "Infantry, Armored/Machanized Units". His diagnosis was Hemorrhoids and existed prior to sevice. Afterward he returned to duty. Pvt. McCorkle was discharged from the service May 24, 1945. Pvt. Dannie McCorkle passed away September 15, 1996. He was buried in the Fort Smith, Ar. National Cemeterry.
