Warren Durwood Looper, Sr.
1921-2009



Warren Durwood Looper, Sr. was born April 15, 1921 in Dayton, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Walter L. & Bertha Sanders Looper. March 14, 1942 Warren married Doris Milam of Greenwood. Warren resided in Huntington, Sebastian Co., Ar. In 1941 Warren was attending the University of Arkansas at aFyetteville, Ar.

A military draft card was not found for Warren. He enlisted in the US Army July 13, 1942 and served as a Private with the Signal Corps until October 19, 1945. In February 1944 according to a Hospital Admittance Card he was treated for Nasopharyngitis, acute or a very bad cold. After his time in the military he returned to his home in Arkansas.

Warren passed away November 3, 2009 and was buried in Gilkiam Cemetery in south Sebastian Co., Ar.

W.D. Looper Sr., 88, of Greenwood died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired farmer and rural mail carrier, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of VFW, a deacon and member of Palestine Baptist Church, the Soil Conservation District, Gideons International, the Sebascott Economic Development Council and the widower of Doris Looper.

Mr. Looper is survived by two sons: Warren Looper Jr. and Jimmy Looper, both of Greenwood, Arkansas; a brother: Charles Looper and his wife; 10 wonderful grandchildren; 16 precious great-grandchildren; 5 special great-great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many, many friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the Palestine Baptist Church in Greenwood, Arkansas. W.D. was laid to rest beside his beloved Doris, at Gilliam Cemetery, between Greenwood and Witcherville, Arkansas. Pallbearers were: Steven Pitts, Gary Looper, Kendall Looper, Randall Looper, Shawn Looper, and Mike Looper.
