Vernon Eldith Leadbetter was born 16 Sep 1905 in Shiner, Lavaca Co., Texas.
to Elliotte Pitts & Edith Newton Leadbetter. 19 Dec 1944 while a resident at
Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. Vernon married Bertha Irene Temple
who resided in Laurenburg, North Carolina at that time but was born in Crawford
Co., Ar. . The marriage was in Sebatian Co., Ar. Bertha also served in the military with
the WAC's during the war. She has a WWII page under her maiden name.
Military draft cards have not been found for Leonard but October 9, 1942 he
enlisted as a Pvt. in the US Army at Little Rock, Arkansas. He states he
has a grammar school educcation and his occupation is "farm manager and
foreman". He served until March 13, 1943. At that time he was discharged for
a disability prior to service.
Vernon E. Ledbetter or Leadbetter passed away May 2, 1984 in
Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. His burial was in the National Cemetery
at Fort Smith.
