He was a retired general sales manager for American Bakeries, a member of Pocola First Baptist Church, an Air Force veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post No. 31 and manager and player of Bonanza Ball Club. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Steep Hill Cemetery in Fort Smith. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; two daughters, Donna Johnson of Fort Smith and Diana Smith of Marlow, Okla.; two sons, John D. Howard Jr. of Fort Smith and Trey Howard of Pocola; a brother, Donald Howard of Pocola; five grandchildren, Melody Magnan of Bemidji, Minn., Dr. Mike Nelson of Springdale, Michelle Nelson of Los Angeles, Craig Pankratz of Hackett and Dawn Harrison of Pocola; and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jesse Magnan, Michael Magnan, Dr. Mike Nelson, Craig Pankratz, Larry Smith and Steve Howard.
