Vauda Valgene Hill 1924 - 1983
Vauda Valgene "Rocky" Hill was born November 11, 1924 in Clarksville, Johnson
County, Arkansas, On his draft card he says he was born in Yale, Johnson County,
Arkansas, to Edgar Ashley & Georgia A. Ritchie Hill. The family
settled in Sebastian County before 1935. Vauda graduated from Fort Smith
High School in 1942 and was a "Grizzly" football player.
"Rocky" married Frankie Ashley Mercer on 14 August 1945, in Payne, Oklahoma
but no record of that marriage has been located. It is lised on another tree she is mentioned in.
On his military records his next of kin to contact was his mother, living in Fort Smith on 6th St.
Frankie's name is on"Rockys" Find A Grave listing and the birth record on one of their
children, Lynda Gaye Hill who was born July 31, 1950 in Gregg, Texas.
June 30, 1942 Vauda registered for the military draft in Fort Smith,
Sebastian Co., Ar. He enlisted with the US Marine Corps although I have not
found a record for that enlistment. His rank was Cpl. He was wounded in action, no date given.
He's listed on the WWII Marine Corps WIA list with his mother as his contact, who was living on No.
6th St., Fort Smith, Ar.

In his WWII service with the 2nd Marines in the south pacific Vauda received
both the Bronze star and purple heart for heroic service.
After the war Rocky attended Oklahoma State College in Stillwater, Ok.
He worked for Halliburton and traveled the world for them. Returning to
Oklahoma in 1977.

Vauda Valgene Hill passed away August 20, 1983 at Duncan, Stephens, Oklahoma
and was buried in Resthaven Memorial Gardenin Stephens County, Ok.
