Jasper Bruce Henry
1917-1962



Jasper Bruce Henry was born November 27, 1917 in Arkansas to Chess Joseph & Urma/Irma Mann Henry. Jasper grew up in Sugarloaf Twsp. and Mansfield areas. May 11, 1942 Jasper married Edith Carter from Greenwood, Sebastian Co., Ar.

July 25, 1944 Jasper registered for the military draft at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. February 28, 1939 he enlisted in the US Army. He states he finished 2 years of high school and his occupation is "skilled in production of paint and varnish."

Jasper was attached to the X SP TRS II Armmored Corps.
(The X Corps was activated in May 1942 at Sherman, Texas. Elements of the corps embarked aboard Klipfontein, a Dutch ship operating under charter through the War Shipping Administration for the Army. The ship departed the San Francisco Port of Embarkation for the Pacific Theater 14 July 1944 after two changes of station and participation in maneuvers in Louisiana and at the California-Arizona maneuver area.

X Corps took part in the following campaigns: New Guinea, Leyte, and Southern Philippines. As part of the Sixth Army, X Corps took part in the Philippines campaign of 1944-45, beginning with the invasion of Leyte. For its involvement, the X Corps received the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation with a streamer embroidered 17 October 1944 - 4 July 1945. X Corps became inactive in 1946.)


A Hospital Admission Card shows that in May 1843 Jasper was admitted with a non-battle injury. He had been in the service for 4 years at that time. His injury was in the "Line of Duty". The diagnosis of the first location was the foot, generally, and the Second Diagnosis was Osteomyelitis (bone infection). The second location of the Furist metatarsal bone. (The first metatarsal bone is the bone in the foot just behind the big toe). The Cause of these injuries was "Bullet, Rifle". He was discharged June 29. 1944.

January 17, 1962 Jasper Bruce Henry passed away in Los Angeles, Calif. He was buried at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittler, Los Angeles Co., Calif.
