Grover C Gibson was born 30 Dec 1917 in Logan Co., Ar. to Frank Grover & Ada Bell Vance Gibson. By 1928 the family was living in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co. Ar. Grover registered for the draft on Oct 16, 1940 in Fort Smith, Ar. Pvt. Gibson served in Co. B, 45th Inf. Division. On July 28, 1943 he was killed in combat. Gibson, 24-year-old veteran of World War II, has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Putnam Funeral Home Chapel. Col. Hudson B. Phillips, chaplain at Camp Chaffee, will officiate and burial, with military honors, will be at Forest Park Cemetery. Private Gibson, whose home was at 2107 North I Street, was killed July 28, 1943, on the Island of Sicily. He was a member of the Forty-Seventh Division.
