James Richard Dodd was born Jan 1, 1917 in Sebastian County, Ar. to Rudolphus Byrd & Norah Adalea Platt Dodd. On June 8, 1941 James married Zeta Kathryne Prickett in Sebastian County, Arkansas. 2Lt Dodd, a pilot, was attached to the 392 Bomb Group, Sqd 577, APO 558 and met his death on a mission on 28 Jan 1945 over Germany at Gerbeck near Belve/Westfalem at 1230pm. His plane was hit by enemy fire and damaged causing it to roll into another plane in the formation. Both planes went down. Ten men were killed and 2 survived, were captured and in a hospital. The dead had to be identified by their tags or other items found with their body.
