Paul David Chapman
1923-2013


Paul David Chapman was born September 17, 1923 at Lavaca, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Perry John & Maude Malissa Floyd Chapman. January 5, 1943 while attending the Universary of Arkansas he met and married Jo Bee Main from Springdale, Washington Co., Ar.

November 11, 1942 Paul enlisted with the US Navy at Little Rock, Ar. On a muster record dated July 6, 1943 his rank is MM2, Machinists Mate Second Class.. The ship he was serving on was the USS Wm D. Porter. The first muster record was dated July 6, 1943..... the date of commissioning of the destroyer. The next muster roll he is found on was Jsnuary 16, 1944. They were coming back from Adak, Alaska to open seas. June 10, 1945 the ship was sunk.

Here is the Story of the USS Wm D Porter. I can say it is an Very unusual story of a war ship. Nothing more is known about Paul's time in the military.

August 11, 2013 Paul David Chapman passed away at Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas. His burial was at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas.

Paul David Chapman, 89, of Springdale, died Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Ashley Health and Rehab in Rogers. He was born September 17, 1923 in Lavaca, Arkansas.

Paul served in the United States Navy on a Destroyer in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1952. Paul and his family previously resided in Magnolia and Little Rock before taking the position of Executive Director of Tulsa Urban Renewal Authority in 1962. He was the first person to hold this position in the state of Oklahoma. He retired in 1992 and moved back to Springdale where he was an active volunteer at the Jones Center, The V.A. Hospital and Meals on Wheels in Springdale.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife of seventy years, Jo Bee Chapman of the home; one daughter, Paula Bolen of Springdale and one son, David Chapman and wife Donna of Springdale; three grandchildren, John Chapman, Blake Chapman and Hayley Gray and husband Jency; one sister, Lena Mayness of Lavaca and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 1pm at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale.

An open visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.
