On Nov 1, 1941 Jerry married Viola Lois Thompson from Van Buren, Crawford Co., Ar. PFC Cates was a part of Co. L 185 INF, 40 INF DIV. In June 1945 Pfc Jerry Cates was KIA. His hospital Admission Card states: Diagnosis: Wound(s), perforating (points of entrance and exit) with no nerve or artery involvement; Location: Face, Forehead and frontal region; Causative Agent: Bullet, Missile. Not in Medical Installation Prior to Death. On Feb 28, 1949 Pfc Jerry Cates was buried in the Fort Smith National Cemetery.
