Charles Herman Bunch
1917-1964


Charles Herman Bunch was born April 17, 1917 in Missouri to Oscar Thurman & Lillie Ethel Maxwell Bunch. By 1928 the family was living in Marion Township, Sebastian Co., Ar. Charles had a twin brother, Sherman Andrew Bunch who also served in the war.

According to his enlistment papers Charlie enlisted with the US Army August 9, 1941 as a Pvt. in the US Army and served later as a Corporal with the Company C, 310 Engineers, which was a support group that assisted the infantry companies in the field. Engineers built bridges, improved roads, cleared roads of mine fields and destroyed enemy obstacles and bridges with demolitions.

In July 1944, according to a Hospital Admittance Card, Charlie was admitted to the hospital, or field hospital. The diagnosis was Diphtheria. He was treated and returned to duty the same month.

His ennlistment date on the Headstone Application is May 13, 1942. and discharge from the militry date was October 31, 1945, a little different from the record above.

Find A Grave listing says Charlie passed away in Fort Smith, Arkansas but he had a death certificate from Wayne, Michigan. His sister who ordered the marker was a resident of Michaigan when she ordered it as you can see on the application below.
