S/Sgt Joseph F Black was born in Mansfield, Ar. Nov 29, 1925 to James Washington and Bertha May Woods Black. In 1930 Joe was living in Dayton, Sebastian Co., Ar and in 1940 Ft. Smith, Ar.

Joe registered for the military draft at San Joaquin Co., California on December 29, 1942. He enlisted with the Army April 14, 1943. No Army branch was assigned. On his enlistment he states that he finished 4 years of high school and his occupation had been "Semiskilled painters, construction and maintenance."

S Sgt Black was attached to the 445th Bomb Gp, 701st Bomb Sq.
